@courtcan@etherdiver I support what I can, but true art will be made if anyone purchases it or not.
The saddest part isn't the art economy for me (granted I have no skin in the game), it's the tragedy of an artist stopping being creative because their work doesn't sell or they convince themselves it isn't worth it.
Of course, that's me speaking about myself as I revisit and relish in my own creativity and creative brain, and explore it after neglecting it for so long.
@scarletfi@courtcan true art might be made but you aren't ever going to see it if it isn't worthwhile for artists to spend some of their time making it available to you...
@etherdiver@courtcan I'm looking forward to stocking my new apartment next month with original art. I love that someone poured themselves into it, and I get the gift of having it and it meaning something special to me, too.
@scarletfi@courtcan If everyone did that in whatever artistic medium that they cared about, then art, and the artists that make it, would be doing much better overall
@etherdiver@courtcan indeed. It's just tough, a lot of folks are paycheck to paycheck. I feel artists should be fairly compensated for their time and talent (and all the years bringing them up to that point).
Feels shitty to ask if they have prints of the original artwork, sometimes I hope they do, cause just realities of having funds.
@scarletfi@courtcan for what it's worth, every visual artist I've ever known is happy to sell prints! Sometimes they even prefer to do that than selling the original art.
@scarletfi@etherdiver Speaking for myself, I'd be thrilled if people wanted to buy my originals--but there are some originals that I will never part with. I'd also be thrilled if people wanted to buy prints. It's just lovely to know that my art is in people's homes and they enjoy it. 😊
