Is there a documented, credible source for why Jack Dorsey has distanced himself from ?

I know the narrative is that he now doesn't have as much power and influence over the platform and protocol. But what is that based on? The fact that he deleted his BlueSky account and now hangs on Nostr?

That doesn't make sense.

@fromjason
Just a thought on the typical narrative. A presence on the board of directors is a slightly more consequential involvement than possessing a user account, don't you think? Any argument based only on the user account thing is pretty flimsy. Jack's stink is all over the architecture and its pseudo-philosophical underpinnings

@fromjason Social media is SOAP OPERA, you don't document these! JACK does not like Bluesky's moderation, he is in Nostr which can't be moderated as easily.

@proximacentauri it is a very silly notion that Jack is throwing a tantrum over the company he owns. Especially since BlueSky the company has been pretty opaque about who actually owns most of the company.

It's not a soap opera. It's a business.

@fromjason @proximacentauri Jack Dorsey has fuck you money. His actions don't need to make sense when he doesn't care about money

@yulian @proximacentauri dude come on! Lol

With the exception of maybe Musk, billionaire tech founders leverage their fuck you money into more power.

Dorsey isn't a genius, but he has at least an MBA level education on how to invest and run businesses.

His moves make sense. It's the narrative surrounding it that doesn't.

@fromjason @proximacentauri dunno. I thought Elon was a somewhat reasonable but eccentric person a few years ago. Turned out to be a lunatic.

We don't know how business savvy Jack is. He seems to only care about Twitter clones.

He loves crypto. And BlueSky isn't a fan of crypto Community to the level Nostr is.

I have s Nostr account and Jack is relishing his time there. Could be as simple as he likes it better

@yulian @fromjason @proximacentauri It is as simple as this

fromjason,
@fromjason@mastodon.social avatar

@yulian @proximacentauri sure. But that only makes sense if Jack didn't own BlueSky and he himself didn't appoint Jay Gruber as CEO.

mackuba,
@mackuba@martianbase.net avatar

@fromjason @yulian @proximacentauri He doesn't own it, and she was the CEO from the very beginning, so any kind of difference in opinions or vision that appeared which led to him losing some interest has happened long after she became the CEO

timbray,

@fromjason He's widely known to be a crypto enthusiast, and the Bluesky design team firmly rejected blockchain technology while Nostr is embracing it. Maybe that’s it?

fromjason,
@fromjason@mastodon.social avatar

@timbray Founders don't just walk away from their investment and ownership because the dev team disagrees with the vision.

@fromjason In no meaningful sense is Jack a “founder” of Bluesky. Pre-Elon, they arranged initial funding and hired the CEO. He’s never had any ownership interest.

fromjason,
@fromjason@mastodon.social avatar

@timbray are you aware of public documents that shows who owns BlueSky the company? Because even by your account that seems pretty vague.

@fromjason @timbray There some info collected here: https://snarfed.org/bluesky-corporate-ownership-and-structure

Some key points:
"The company is owned by the team itself, without any controlling stake held by Twitter"
"Jay does hold the majority of the equity but everyone on the team has equity as well"
"jack is 1 of 3 board members: me [Jay] and jeremie.com are the others"
"Jack does have some advisors shares for serving on the board, but its quite a small amount IIRC"
