Is there a documented, credible source for why Jack Dorsey has distanced himself from #BlueSky?
I know the narrative is that he now doesn't have as much power and influence over the platform and protocol. But what is that based on? The fact that he deleted his BlueSky account and now hangs on Nostr?
@fromjason Social media is SOAP OPERA, you don't document these! JACK does not like Bluesky's moderation, he is in Nostr which can't be moderated as easily.
Working with multiple @things windows in my living room is an amazing experience, and the fact that all my shortcuts work out of the box is even better.
Fediverse! I’ve been building a bridge to Bluesky, and they’re turning on federation soon, which means my bridge will be available soon too. You’ll be able to follow people on Bluesky from here in the fediverse, and vice versa.
Bluesky is a broad network with lots of worthwhile people and conversations! I hope you’ll give it a chance. Only fully public content is bridged, not followers-only or otherwise private posts or profiles. Still, if you want to opt out, I understand. Feel free to DM me at @snarfed (different account than this one), email me, file a GitHub issue, or put #nobridge in your profile bio.
I feel like nobody wants to hear me on this, but for VR to really work we need massive advices in basic physics & biology, like, being able to project images/video/sound directly into the brain and eye so they are literally indistinguishable from "reality". I do think Apple's device is an important and useful step forward -- the first one actually worth trying -- but a baby step nonetheless.
I believe Mastodon has helped me conquer a need to make sure things are correct on the internet or in other people’s opinions. There’s a quiet here. I know not everyone’s graph/feed has that!
Somehow he is still here, even though all his friends are in #Threads.
BOB! We can follow your Threads account, once Zuck and their tech lords grace us. They've promised (fingers crossed), that we Mastodon plebs can follow people at Threads, this year!
You can already follow a few people at threads like their tech head: @mosseri
P.S. Where is your #Yemen episode? I can't find it!
I got a request from my inlaw about my thoughts on substack. I've heard all sorts and generally respect @molly0xfff's option on villainy. So the question is, what should i recommend?
The brief is: wants to sell pdf versions of sheet music and other similar creative works, wants to promote and link to podcasts. So doesn't look like a blog to me. Any good platforms for that sort of thing?
@rabble@nonlinear Search is now built in (like mastodon.social has it), and if your server enables it, it takes effect for all previous toots too... It has param to search from your own toots too.
My general view for now on the issue of Threads integration with #Mastodon is that it may make sense in terms of making it easier for Threads users to follow Mastodon users (given the topology and complications of the Mastodon model), but it makes little sense for Mastodon users to follow Threads users via such an integration, rather than simply following them on Threads and avoiding "cross-contamination" of the very different operational models and standards involved. My sense is that Mastodon will ultimately be on the losing end of this arrangement. Why? One word: "Zuck."
"it makes little sense for Mastodon users to follow Threads users via such an integration"
What are you cooking? Why not? I just want all the content from people I follow. @gruber's of the world. They post different content on Threads, and I want it all! I THINK THREADS INTEGRATION IS GREAT!
Good morning. Except for this burning in my abdomen, for which I am waiting for a call from the doctor about, it’s been a delightfully cool morning. With my new split AC finally up and running, I am finally ready to adapt to climate change with the rest of you. Bring it.
Wow... just when you think things can't get any stupider over at the birdsite... THEY DO! 🤦♂️
Unbelievable! And yet again a reminder that when using someone else's social media platform, YOU ARE A GUEST in someone else's house... and they can change the rules at any time.
I’m going to pretend that media studies professors have influence over people whose principle requirement for choosing a social media platform is not having to choose a server.

I like the term "enshitification" -- to me it describes where we've been for about 17 years. are we emerging from it? are we entering the age of deshitification?
to me it means no longer typing into tiny little shitboxes for writing. this is no way to treat a human being.
@TruthSandwich@freemo My point was your server will not de-federate with Threads, it's part of the principle to federate with all servers. I haven't read your server intro, it's just part of general knowledge here.
Cyber Anarchy Squad - who recently hit Infotel in Russia - are claiming they have hit #Dozortel (aka DoZor-Teleport), the satellite internet provider in Russia.
They are saying they've impacted firmware on client modems.
So far, I can confirm a network outage at Dozortel.
