Interesting interview with Jack Dorsey. Why he left #Bluesky , the relationship with Twitter and what he thinks about #nostr.
Where I agree with him: The importance of identity handling and the need to divide (commercial) platform and protocol.
rolle, Bluesky enthusiasts are stating that Bluesky has ”plans” to make ATProto universal and transfer it to W3C or the like. Well, there is no evidence that Bluesky wants to give up control or the protocol is going to be widely adopted after 5 years of development so forgive me being sceptical. The story is a bit different with ActivityPub.
yachtie,
Richard_Littler, Jack Dorsey is furious that #Bluesky has attracted "very very common" people. He also doesn't like the idea of moderation tools facilitating the banning of racists.
All these tech billionaires are like a version of the movie Big, in which a pre-adolescent boy wakes up in the body of an aging Howard Hughes. Or Colonel Kurtz. Or a sardine.
#JackDorsey
anathema_device,
binaryphile, @Richard_Littler And let's re-appreciate this gem from Dorsey's BS last year: https://www.engadget.com/bluesky-allowed-people-to-include-the-n-word-in-their-usernames-184049864.html
arnelson, The #Bridgy #BlueskyBridge is great from the Fediverse side, but the #Bluesky side is still missing a lot. Posts longer than the limit just get truncated; wouldn't a Read More link be better? And self-replies don't seem to get bridged at all, so threads don't work.
TVPaulD, If I could have one app that combined what all four of these Apps do, I would be so happy #BlueSky #Mastodon #Threads #Fediverse #AtProtocol
rolle, @TVPaulD In some form you will, because Threads is implementing ActivityPub and Bluesky can be bridged via BridgyFed. In the future it would be possible to just use one to access them all.
mobileatom,
jwildeboer, "Jack Dorsey claims Bluesky is 'repeating all the mistakes' he made at Twitter" so he left Bluesky and now he invests in Nostr and will try again because third time's a charm :) https://www.engadget.com/jack-dorsey-claims-bluesky-is-repeating-all-the-mistakes-he-made-at-twitter-234326121.html
mattb, @jwildeboer Did you read what he thought their mistakes were, though? Moderation... WTF?
jwildeboer, @mattb They are all the same. Thiel, Musk, Dorsey. They want to see the world burn, IMHO.
serenebabe, I don’t really understand what it means that #bluesky is somehow now connected to the #Fediverse? If I have an account there on bluesky, will I now have two accounts in the Fediverse?
serenebabe, @misc oh, thanks! So you currently have two presences in the fediverse?
misc, @serenebabe Essentially, yeah. Though I mostly did that to try the tech. I think it’s more useful for people who only want to post in one place, but want to be able to interact with people in other places.
noidea, German Hallo !
Kann mir jemand sagen wie ich nach bestimmten Netzwerken suchen kann in der Friendica Suchfunktion? Gab es da nicht was, so in der Art.:
suchbegriff network: diaspora
?In der Hilfe hab ich auch nix gefunden, zu den Suchoptionen.
Ich würde gerne mal gucken ob ich was von #bluesky finde und wie das aussieht.
feb, German
noidea, German vielen dank! Wenn ich mal Zeit habe gucke ich evtl. auch mal wegen Übersetzung der einen oder anderen englischen Doku/Hilfeseite auf deutsch.. wie das geht.. 👍
jakub, Interview with Jack #Dorsey.
»#Bluesky was launched to become the open source protocol layer for social media platforms, but the team ended up “literally repeating all the mistakes we made” at #Twitter.«
»There’s “absolutely no way” social media companies remain censorship resistant without moving to open protocols. “We need to change the foundation everything is built on.”«
https://www.piratewires.com/p/interview-with-jack-dorsey-mike-solana
jnv, @jakub “Oh no, they started moderating nazis. :pika:“
Zawinski called Dorsey “Blockchain Rasputin” and now I will always think of him like that https://www.jwz.org/blog/2024/05/blockchain-rasputin-over-here-is-mad-that-moderation-exists/
J12t, Jack Dorsey interview post-#Bluesky. Whatever you think of him, his views on why he helped getting Bluesky started in the first place are interesting. I wonder which of those might apply to the Fediverse (which he doesn't mention at all).
https://www.piratewires.com/p/interview-with-jack-dorsey-mike-solana
reiver,
mxtthxw, @J12t I don’t think the Fedi is an interest as it’s never been a ‘free speech’ platform.
I’ve been using Nostr and it’s clear that he’s into it from his posts there.
His words match his actions so regardless of any opinions, he’s doing what he feels is important.
I prefer the vibe of the Fedi to Nostr but the protocol is cool and opens up some possibilities… but has edgy 4 Chan types, I don’t like that.
I don’t care about X. Let Elno play with his toys and leave me out of it.
bathiya,
ivory, @bathiya There's services like https://techcrunch.com/2024/04/25/bluesky-backs-a-project-that-would-let-mastodon-apps-like-ivory-work-with-its-network/, but we aren't doing anything specific for Bluesky at this time. The future, however, is unknown.
paulfoerster, Found today on #Bluesky. A fake #AIGenerated #LEGO #Boeing set.
DrDottir, @paulfoerster ouch :)
J12t, So #Bluesky is implementing an (unspecified) new protocol for direct messages. Because AtProto is really not suitable for anything that isn't 100% public.
I wonder whether they can do this now that Jack is off the board. But maintaining two separate protocols in the same app? Who knows, maybe #ActivityPub is next?
J12t, @evan @tomcoates ☝☝☝
evan, @J12t @tomcoates cool.
o_simardcasanova, “Try not to wildly misrepresent #Bluesky” challenge, and so far, a massive number of people are catastrophically failing the challenge.
Arataka, Rip Bluesky? Jack has left and unfollowed everyone - https://thedeepdive.ca/jack-dorsey-leaves-bluesky-board-unfollows-almost-everyone-on-x/
deadsuperhero, @Arataka Some of the reporting on this topic is really messy.
Jack was on the board, but allegedly had little to do with the day-to-day operations and decisions. He was supposedly bullied off of Bluesky last year by people still mad at him for Twitter, and has largely been supporting Nostr for the duration.
His unfollowing thing on Twitter is supposedly just a test of the algorithm as it exists today. That’s what Jack said, anyway.
Troll, French Tiens, il y a un pont #bluesky <===> #fediverse maintenant ?
Vous me dites jamais rien >_>https://fediversereport.com/last-week-in-fediverse-ep-67/

mackuba,
mpjgregoire, @mick
Does #CoSocialCa have any policy about bridging posts to #Bluesky ? I'm inclined to make my account available there.
mpjgregoire, @mick Actually, you don't need to answer that. I see that Evan, Boris and Tim are already bridging, so I suppose there's no issue.
mackuba, #Bluesky has posted an updated #ATProto protocol roadmap for the coming months: https://docs.bsky.app/blog/2024-protocol-roadmap
mobileatom,
o_simardcasanova, Let’s start another #MegaThread, this time on upcoming and new features on #Bluesky.
Megathreads are open ended threads where I share relevant information about a specific topic.
Bluesky will soon have proper DMs, video, better auth (via OAuth), better custom feeds, and even more anti-harassment features.
https://bsky.social/about/blog/05-07-2024-product-roadmap

o_simardcasanova, Not a feature, but an interesting post by Jay Graber, the CEO of #Bluesky.
How involved was #JackDorsey before he left the board? Not that much, it turns out.
It has always been misleading to present Bluesky as the “platform of Jack Dorsey”. It’s also sexist, as once again, the work of a talented woman was wrongfully attributed to a very mediocre man. The tech version of the Matilda effect.

atomicpoet, So I just tried opting into #BridgyFed (https://brid.gy/mastodon/@atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org).
I found it confusing. For one thing, it asks me for my Mastodon account. Though Akkoma uses Mastodon’s API, not all sites recognize this nor support it—I don’t know if BridgyFed would reject.
Secondly, it’s not clear how to opt in. I think I opted in but there was nothing to say “Congrats! People from #Bluesky can see you!”
Also, how do I receive #Bluesky posts? That’s not apparent to me.
olav, If it helps I'm at least as confused. Hopefully the light of dawn will bring more clarity
cragsand, To enable and opt-in you follow this account: @bsky.brid.gy@bsky.brid.gy
That will start mirroring and federate your ActivityPub account over the ATProtocol and assign a DID.Then the counterpart for BlueSky you follow:
https://bsky.app/profile/ap.brid.gy
And it will start mirroring your ATProtocol account as an ActivityPub account.AT to AP seems more seamless since AP has more features. Truncating long posts for example looks ugly. The plan is to thread them eventually.
