Jack Dorsey is furious that #Bluesky has attracted "very very common" people. He also doesn't like the idea of moderation tools facilitating the banning of racists.
All these tech billionaires are like a version of the movie Big, in which a pre-adolescent boy wakes up in the body of an aging Howard Hughes. Or Colonel Kurtz. Or a sardine. #JackDorsey
The #Bridgy#BlueskyBridge is great from the Fediverse side, but the #Bluesky side is still missing a lot. Posts longer than the limit just get truncated; wouldn't a Read More link be better? And self-replies don't seem to get bridged at all, so threads don't work.
@TVPaulD In some form you will, because Threads is implementing ActivityPub and Bluesky can be bridged via BridgyFed. In the future it would be possible to just use one to access them all.
I don’t really understand what it means that #bluesky is somehow now connected to the #Fediverse? If I have an account there on bluesky, will I now have two accounts in the Fediverse?
@serenebabe Essentially, yeah. Though I mostly did that to try the tech. I think it’s more useful for people who only want to post in one place, but want to be able to interact with people in other places.
»#Bluesky was launched to become the open source protocol layer for social media platforms, but the team ended up “literally repeating all the mistakes we made” at #Twitter.«
»There’s “absolutely no way” social media companies remain censorship resistant without moving to open protocols. “We need to change the foundation everything is built on.”«
Jack Dorsey interview post-#Bluesky. Whatever you think of him, his views on why he helped getting Bluesky started in the first place are interesting. I wonder which of those might apply to the Fediverse (which he doesn't mention at all).
So #Bluesky is implementing an (unspecified) new protocol for direct messages. Because AtProto is really not suitable for anything that isn't 100% public.
I wonder whether they can do this now that Jack is off the board. But maintaining two separate protocols in the same app? Who knows, maybe #ActivityPub is next?
@Arataka Some of the reporting on this topic is really messy.
Jack was on the board, but allegedly had little to do with the day-to-day operations and decisions. He was supposedly bullied off of Bluesky last year by people still mad at him for Twitter, and has largely been supporting Nostr for the duration.
His unfollowing thing on Twitter is supposedly just a test of the algorithm as it exists today. That’s what Jack said, anyway.
