How did The New York Times, one of the world’s most famous and well-established publications, choose to review Geraldine DeRuiter’s ( @everywhereist) new book?

By illustrating her decapitated head on a plate, getting devoured by another woman. No, I’m not joking.

I got mad about it. I wrote about why:

@mariyadelano @everywhereist I read the NYT review. I didn’t get the sense at all that this was a review of a book. It felt rather more like a disguised personal attack.

@jeromechoo @everywhereist i felt the same way. It was absolutely disgusting.

@mariyadelano @everywhereist That article and the graphic is absolutely abhorrent.

@mariyadelano The only good thing coming out of this that hopefully even more people buying her book, but I’m pretty sure that book was going to be super successful without kinda traumatizing the author.

@boby_biq it’s hard to say how successful the book would have been. But as it stands yeah thankfully there has been enough backlash to sell copies of the book, but at what cost? This is so distressing even as a spectator. Can’t imagine the trauma to the author.
