One day in my late 20s, I woke up one morning and liked olives. Overnight, or so it seemed, they went from despised balls of horrific salty bitterness to the radiant green orbs of the gods.

Ditto with the celery, especially when you reach that stage in adulting when you learn properly what salt is for!

Breros,

I think the first olives I ever had were just not the right ones for me. When I was around 25 I just tried again. They were with onions and honey. And after I started trying different kinds of olives. Sometime I just eat a whole jar of them 😋

Apart from coffee, the only food I've really had to learn to like is porridge. I hated it as a kid but it has really grown on me. It's very nutritious and tastes great with some raspberry jam

Overnight oats is the only way I can eat porridge, its creamy and soft as opposed to the slimy hot goop I was served as a kid.

cauliflower. i grew up hating vegetables but I'm more shocked how little is required to make it good.

icegreenmelon,

Cilantro. I hated it for 20+ years. Brother made spring rolls with cilantro in them for dinner one night, and I ate it because I didn't want to be rude - realized I actually liked it after all that time.

Bell peppers were the bane of my existence when I was a kid. I hated everything, from the taste to the texture.

While I wouldn‘t say it‘s one of my favorite foods now, I do use it when cooking myself and in certain dishes I actually like it

xlonefoxx,

Oatmeal raisin cookies, turns out they're great when you don't have to face the crushing disappointment of mistaking them for chocolate chip cookies

Black eyed peas. We ate them every New Year’s day (I still do), and I used to hold my nose to eat them. I only ever had to eat “one for each year I was alive”. Now I absolutely love them.

jofo,

Brussels sprouts. Never had them before but once we got them in meal kits, my wife and I love them (certain toppings help)

Have you tried baking brussel sprouts in the oven? So good.

Hank,

Brussel sprouts are less bitter nowadays than they were like two decades ago.

Lor,

So they are. Neat!

Sushi for me. As a middle school weeb I tried it sometimes but I hated it, especially the seaweed. Some years later I tried it again and it was like a switch flipped and now I love sushi.

In my case it would be zucchini. I hated it when my mother cooked it. It wasn't until I was an adult that I realized that I didn't hate zucchini, but rather how my mother overcooked it until it into a mush

Broccoli, used to hate it during childhood but now love it

gerowen,

Broccoli. Broccoli is one of this foods that seems universally hated by kids, but whether it's the little tiny ones you get in your food at Asian restaurants or broccoli and cheese dipped in the drippings off my steak at Applebee's, I'm getting a taste for it if it's prepared right.

Same, my mum really dragged me to eat broccoli...

But, years later Vulcan learnt how to love broccoli (both as soup and steak addition)

I used to hate unprocessed fish with a passion, mostly because they were inconvenient, full of bones, and the taste was just not worth it. These days I'm starting to like it (especially milkfish) even if it wasn't deboned. I'm not even sure if I "love fish" right now, but my relationship with it is now better. Back then, I would simply refuse to eat if it was all we had on the table.

IceCapp,

Almonds, I freakin love almonds and have them everyday now. The thing that sucks the most is because it's a nut and high in calories, I have to be careful with the portions.

Super nutritious tho! Calories aren’t all bad and you’re getting tons of protein and healthy fat from dem almonds. Really healthy snack.

Yes but it's still easy to eat a shit load of calories snacking on nuts. They pack so much fat in such a small container.
