Did you ever have a classmate that pretended to be a vampire or some other supernatural creature? How much did they commit to it?

I had a couple classmates that pretended to be vampires back in elementary and middle school. They’d pretend their Koolaid was blood, complain about the sunlight, and bite their friends a lot. Not enough to draw blood, though. I haven’t kept up with most of them, but one guy is a teacher now. He seems pretty normal.

Yes, but from my end actually. I thought I had the ability to control the weather, and I went down this rabbithole when I read stuff about Mythicals and AWTOK from Wattpad. That place was wild, there were people claiming to be relatives of gods and were the "chosen ones" to represent mythicals in the war or some shit like that. One of them had a discord community server at one point and claimed they could "detect your mythical type" (some people tried using different accounts and they got different results each time LOL). As to how committed they are, they would listen to subliminals, practice magic every day, make designs for their desired mythical type, etc

Search up neko subliminals on Youtube and neko journal on Wattpad. She may be that sort of person

Hot take: 18 years of user contributions to reddit will serve as a base model for an AI that generates content and conversations. the reddit experience continues as a simulation, to harvest clicks, sales and ad revenue.

most of the time you'll be talking to a bot there without even realizing. they're gonna feed you products and ads interwoven into conversations, and the AI can be controlled so its output reflects corporate interests. advertisers are gonna be able to buy access and run campaigns. based on their input, the AI can generate...

Considering most of reddit's comments are either one-liners and jokes, it's not that hard to get upvotes as a bot... but how'd you spot one? I'm afraid that I didn't learn the ability to distinguish between bot and human.

First misinformation susceptibility test finds 'very online' Gen Z and millennials are most vulnerable to fake news (phys.org)

The Great Grift: More than $200 billion in COVID-19 aid may have been stolen, federal watchdog says (apnews.com)

More than $200 billion may have been stolen from two large COVID-19 relief initiatives. That's according to new estimates from a federal watchdog investigating federally funded programs designed to help small businesses survive the worst public health crisis in more than a hundred years.

Knowing everything down to 100% accuracy like how to gain immortality, but needing to activate it through writing the question, then being able to retrieve said knowledge (which can be brief or in-depth depending on the intention) by writing the answer, and I will also retrieve answers most relevant to what I want to know. Optional omniscience, so it doesn't make your head explode.

But if that's too god-like, being able to read 3000 WPM and still understand/comprehend what I'm reading at that speed, as well as still engaging with my thoughts on what I'm reading.

It's almost a relief that I was (relatively) recently introduced to 3rd party apps that it made me care enough to move to Kbin in protest of Reddit's actions. The future there is bleak.

I don't know how it would have differed from Reddit in this regard, but it would be quite suitable for a forum website to give thorough reviews of books. Some people give reviews of books on Tiktok where they just say the main topic of the book and that it's 'good'... good in what way? And like what other commenters have mentioned, some love too for nonfiction. Maybe we could even have discussions for fanfiction?

Lemmy feeding 4 & 5 day old content on the front page. (vlemmy.net)

The way in which the Active and Hot filtering has been stale for days on end has been bugging me so much since I started using Lemmy. I've been scrolling past these 3 posts in that exact order every day since they first appeared 4 days ago. Is there any way to fix this?

While the devs try to improve the recommendation feature, "Top Day" seems to be an okay substitute.

We need to be able to differentiate between NSFW and porn.

A boob, a butt, or even some violence like one might see on the news anyway, I’m not freaked out about all that and I don’t feel the need to hide it from those around me usually… that’s all fine fine, but I don’t want porn on my feed like at all....

XiELEd,
XiELEd avatar

So imagine NSFW (or 18+) as a circle and sexual content as a smaller circle within it. Some people look for NSFW (say, combat footage), but not porn. If a post was designated within "sexual content", it would also put it within the realm of NSFW, so it won't show up to someone who doesn't want to see NSFW, but if someone is fine with NSFW but not sexual content, they won't see porn, but will be able to see NSFW.

You couldn't even trust redditors to read past the headlines!

Strange phenomenon while deleting my comments

Last night, I used Redact to delete all my comments, then altered the settings to make an exception for one and only one subreddit. To check if I even had comments left in that subreddit, I kept an eye on my comments through Infinity. At first the comments were being deleted one by one, then suddenly it showed a "No comments...

That may be the case, so I think it's a temporary answer to this mystery. Though recently some of my comments ranging from 7 and 10 months ago (update: as of 6/19/23 my 18 days old comments are now reappearing) have been reappearing again, so it's become a kind of a whack-a-mole situation right now.

It's funny how he calls the moderators landed gentry, when he is the one benefitting from the mods' unpaid labor, all because they wanted to maintain their community, and then calls them squatters. In my culture, that sort of language means that he's trying to mock the moderators for being squatters "aspiring to be landed gentry"... then if you put his comments about owning slaves in an apocalyptic scenario into perspective... honestly I have no words left.
And all those "subtle insults" for the community just makes me wonder, why do people even want to benefit him, or be associated with him? This man was the ultimate reason why I left, not even the fact that I was a 3rd party user.

Why does it feel like we're at a point where every social media + other digital media are making shitty decisions and falling apart?

I mean there's Reddit ofc, as well as Twitter in its entirety, Discord is implementing some dumb updates, there are issues with Tumblr as well as everything to do with Meta, and I'm sure there are plenty more (and I haven't even touched other digital media, for example the Sims). Why is it all happening in the span of about a...

And now how exactly do we mention people with untypable usernames?

XiELEd,

For me, it's not the app but u/spez. He lies, manipulates and tried to discreetly insult the community. It doesn't feel right for me to remain there.

I left because having that sort of person at the helm is just disconcerting.

I like playing through KEMCO games when I'm bored, though they're mostly turn-based JRPG games. My favorite is Asdivine Dios.

XiELEd,

It's not like that, though. Please don't just assume what our intentions are. We just get confused sometimes, especially on mobile, when there are maintenance and update posts for other sites that make it seem like it's going to be implemented here. The only way I distinguish between here and there is whether it's posted by Ernest or somebody else. If we could distinguish between posts by this site and others, we'd be up to date on other sites' development without getting misled.

XiELEd,
XiELEd avatar

I'm not sure about lemmy since I'm primarily a kbin user, but the mobile website is already really good to begin with. I just use Hermit to make it even more "app-like" with features like full screen and frameless. I even did the same to the websites of some of my other apps.

So just like how others perceive Tor and the Dark Web... I wonder how they'll do it with us this time around. Where I'm from, the supporters of the Admin party discredited the Opposition's supporters for being "too idealistic" and "complaining all the time".

The only things I pirate are books, and most of them are nonfic/textbooks (I'm just that type of person to legitimately enjoy textbooks). It's more because they're not available in my country, even in libraries or bookstores, and the shipping costs are quite high. What do you think?
