@geffrey Tools to use with Plain Text:

• Notepad++ (https://notepad-plus-plus.org) - quite possibly the most popular Windows freeware text editor on the planet
• Notepad3 (https://www.rizonesoft.com/downloads/notepad3/) - loads lightning fast

Both of the above are completely free and have excellent text manipulating features and syntax highlighting.

@geffrey “Bridging the gap” - there actually is no gap between many fully-featured text editors and the concept of plain text. Plenty of them only support plain text, it’s how many text-manipulation or display features they have that differentiate them. They all read and spit out .txt files in the end. Unless I’m misunderstanding the concept of “plain”..

They shouldn’t confused with RICH text editors though.
