Upgrading my recumbent to electric night 1: motor is installed! Still some tweaking to do - re-aligning the brake pads, namely. But, that’s a good start.

Yes, I did spend extra on a black motor with black spokes. I also got a black motor controller. I need the color scheme to match.

Day 2: spent a couple hours trying and failing to adjust the disk brake. I'll get it... I hope.

Also removed the cranks, bottom bracket, and so forth to install the torque sensor (which replaces the bottom bracket). Unfortunately, I don't have a chainring that'll fit this setup, and I forgot to order one earlier, so more wait...

I also modeled up a way to mount the display near the front of the bike.

@younata Wow that looks amazing! I had been wondering if an electric assist recumbent bicycle was feasible. I converted a recumbent trike to electric.

Always wondered if a two wheeler recumbent electric would have balance problems. I only tried a recumbent 2 wheeler once and couldn’t really get my balance to work 🤪

What are you using for the Controller? I used the Grin Tech Cycle Analyst and Phaserunner with torque sensor.
Had written up the original work at https://endless-sphere.com/sphere/threads/my-experience-converting-an-ice-trike-to-a-dd-hub-pedalec.91440/

Rear view of the 2012 Ice Recumbent Trike modified by myself to add electric assist. Can see the Crystalyte M3540R hub motor. Two - 52V 13 Ah Downtube Battery. Upfront you can see the Cycle Analyst V3 console. Also has torque sensor in the bottom bracket, as well as a throttle and brake sensors. Also switched to Magura MT5e 4 Piston Hydraulic Disk Brakes

@rberger @younata
HP offers 2 wheeled¹ w/ e-assist since ages; nowadays even as S-Pedelec…

¹ trikes also, of course
