Just a random selfie with a Russian propagandist. That doesn’t mean anything by itself, however. He also was spotted in another photo with Kushner at the world cup as well and again, that doesn’t mean anything more than a picture.

What it does mean, however, is that the world’s richest man chooses to be in close proximity to some really shady people. Or not. The world cup managers probably just had a section carved off for the Friends of Putin club.

Murais,
@Murais@lemmy.one avatar

Hey now! That’s not fair!

You’re forgetting that he was also photographed next to Ghislaine Maxwell.

psycho_driver,

Musk just wants to be buddies with the worlds richest man.

jarfil,

[Sorry beforehand if this sounds like a defense of Musk…]

I’ve recently seen a documentary about a con man who used to go to galas, photoshoots and stuff, asking if he could “just take a selfie” with popular/influential people… then use those photos as “proof” to his victims of how he had “powerful friends” and “knew the right people”.

He’s (presumedly) scammed between half and several million that way, convincing people to invest, to work for him recruiting people to invest, to hold shell companies for him, and so on.

So… “taking a selfie with Elon Musk”, could be more of a “whoever takes the selfie” thing, rather than a Musk thing.

raspberriesareyummy,

So… “taking a selfie with Elon Musk”, could be more of a “whoever takes the selfie” thing, rather than a Musk thing.

At this point I would tend to say the Muskrat is the one trying to improve its reputation by taking pictures with people who appear professional.

glassware,

Yeah I hate Musk but this stuff is stupid, including that photo of him “with” Ghislaine Maxwell where he isn’t posing or smiling and has his back fully turned to her. They were obviously having separate photos taken when Maxwell’s photographer shouted his name.

Astroturfed,

I’m so glad a ton of EV trucks are coming out. I need a truck (Yes, I really do. Plywood sheets don’t fit in cars) and I was never going to buy a cyberturd. I’d rather just do without something than give this piece of shit a cent.

adept,

A transporter would be better in every way except when you need some offroad capabilities.

Astroturfed,

I go camping/hiking in areas with bad dirt roads pretty often. I’m actually looking into the alpha wolf truck that’s supposed to be hitting production soon as my next vehicle.

MagicPterodactyl,

That thing looks like an even worse version of the bronco with a bed. Disgusting

Astroturfed,

It’s just hilarious the level of hate all of the left-wingers here pour out for a small battery powered truck. Only people who vote for Trump by trucks obviously. So you gotta hate the other team!

It’s so ridiculous. If it comes out at the estimated price point it’s the most practical low cost vehicle for my needs and an EV. It’s a truck though. So, gotta bash it. Trucks bad. Anyone who wants an off road capable vehicle, bad.

MagicPterodactyl,

Raised trucks are very good for killing pedestrians so at least they have one use.

Astroturfed,

Yes, I am totally planning on lifting and putting huge mudding tires on my small EV truck.

noobnarski,

The plywood sheets even stay dry and cant be stolen. There are also some offroad versions of some vans if you really need it.

Astroturfed,

Vans that would work well for what I need are way above what I want to or could feasibly pay. I’m going to look very intently into the alpha wolf truck hitting production soon. Very attractive price point.

jose1324,

No you don’t lmao. Get a transporter.

Astroturfed,

So glad you know my life better than me. Thanks I’ll do that.

jose1324,

Glad I could help you with a more sensible solution.

The way things are going, pretty soon we’ll be able to start a to buy and put a instance on its domain.

Da_Boom,
@Da_Boom@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

When he finally fully transitions to X, I’m sure he’ll eventually retire the twitter.com domain, then someone can do exactly that.

GnomeKat,
@GnomeKat@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Doubtful they will just give up the domain

Eldritch,

People honestly doubted that he would give up the branding. With how much he’s cast it aside. Why in the long run would he keep the domain? It’s just a reminder of what he’s thrown away. What strategic value does it hold at this point?

GnomeKat,
@GnomeKat@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

The value is obviously to stop people from using it. Even if Elon doesn’t want to use it, doesn’t mean it would make sense to just give up the domain to someone. People still associate it with X so it would hurt the value of X if someone used it to host a twitter alternative like a masto instance.

jarfil,

He could sell it to a shell company that could redirect it to pornhub… that ought to make the trick and stop all media from still referring to 𝕏 as “Twitter”, without the risk of someone using it to compete with 𝕏.

query,

Main issue with a domain like that, is there are links to it everywhere. Very exploitable. Most of which Musk might not care about, but it would be a way of getting a lot of people’s login information.

ChunkMcHorkle,
@ChunkMcHorkle@lemmy.world avatar

Doubtful they will just give up the domain

He doesn’t have to give it up. He just has to pay his domain fees like he pays his employees, his rent, his utilities, his taxes, his arbitration fees, his mounting judgements, etc. Give it a hot minute, twitter.com will be available soon enough.

I mean, yeah, normally an employee or group of employees is usually tasked with domain maintenance and renewal, but at Xitter, Inc. these days . . . that’s not really the durable fix it is for other companies that do not have Elon Musk as their head.

Eyelessoozeguy,

Is it a xeet on xitter?

Pratai,

How crazy is it that there’s a butthurt Elon worshiping coward downvoting all the comments here.

orphiebaby,

Just one. So far. It’s pretty funny.

13p,

Could actually be Elon at this point

Diplomjodler,

Or one of his visa hostages.

RalphFurley,

Probably someone from Hexbear. The horseshoe is real.

JustZ,

Nah it’s not. There’s no such thing as progressive fascism.

mapro,

In my country our main communist party holds one of the most conservative views in our political spectrum. So progressive fascism wouldn’t surprise me.

JustZ,

Well, I’ll give you an example of what I mean.

In America, the second amendment right to bear arms is championed and deified even by conservatives.

The idea itself, that the public at large should have the right to have guns, is a very, very liberal idea, just by definition, objectively.

It’s certainly possible for a fascist regime to embrace some aspects of progressive ideology, if it is truly fascist, it is by definition neither liberal nor progressive. They are antithetical.

There can be no such thing as a progressive dictator. Just the idea that one person could control the government, is inherently not progressive, not liberal.

RedAggroBest,

Equating liberal and progressive like they’re synonyms is pretty funny. You’re right that a fascist govt could have a few progressive ideas, “Something something Hitler liked dogs something something”, but liberalism is not one for 9ne progressivism. This is why someone like Joe “Fuck Poor People” Manchin is considered liberal despite blocking progressives at every turn.

JustZ,

The same in the sense that neither can be fascist, though. Not equivalent in all things.

JustZ,

The same in the sense that neither can be fascist, though. Not equivalent in all things.

hark,
@hark@lemmy.world avatar

You think hexbear likes musk? The legend of hexbear grows ever twisted.

MrPloppy,

Well worth the $44 billion then?

Oiconomia,

He is awfully close to autocrats of all kind. Neatly following the CCP to sell Teslas in China, doing nothing against spying by Saudi Arabia on Saudi dissidents on twitter and easily doing what Putin wants him to do in Ukraine. The problem is bigger than just Ukraine. Hell, he even let the Saudi investment fund bankroll a part of the twitter acquisition. These are the same guys who lock people up for live for a few critical tweets about MBS (the Saudi despot).

Diplomjodler,

Birds of a feather…

wabafee,

Free speech absolutist there folks.

andrew_bidlaw,

Pawn shop Jerma is what I see on this preview.

fne8w2ah,

Fuck Phoney Stark and his attention-seeking behaviour.

Smoogs,

Oh god could you imagine Elon building a suit to fly around in … I could see him consider this as a good idea. Tesla man

HiddenLayer5,

He can’t care less. They’re still engaging with the platform and generating ad revenue. Maybe don’t protest a platform by continuing to use said platform and therefore making it money.

Diplomjodler,

It’s definitely going to hurt his fragile little ego. I bet his visa slaves are working on a “solution” as we speak.

Squizzy,

He definitely does care he hates people not thinking he’s great. I agree with your sentiment but he’s a delicate bitch all the same

Thetimefarm,

I honestly wouldn’t be suprised if the engineers screen the tweets before showing them in his feed or else he would constantly be forcing them to “fix” the fact people are tweeting mean things about it.

Edgelord_Of_Tomorrow,

The dude bought the site to shut up people who embarrassed him

WuTang,

which prove it is a freespeech platform :)

Impassionata,

wow you’re an easy dupe

freedomenjoyer,

Lets wait till he shuts it down

twisted28,

Seeing how Reddit and twitter propelled the movement, the rich finally realized they were not untouchable to the Public. Reddit was essentially sabotaged from the inside and twitter bought out. The only tools currently able to share the collective outrage of the working class, gone

Bartsbigbugbag,

The countless documented examples of specific individuals and terms being censored disproves that. Letting one thing critical of Musk stay =/= a free speech platform.

snek,
@snek@lemmy.world avatar

That’s the least one could do if they choose to stay on Twitter, I mean X, I mean… meh.

jedi_hamster,

I feel like I’m going insane, AI article filled with bot comments

CitizenKong,

In the future, AI is going to write articles for AI to comment upon, so that AI can display ads on the pages.

over_clox,

That’s probably already going on right now actually.

FabioTheNewOrder,

Bip-bop I’m a bot and you are now aware of Roko’s Basilisk.

See you soon

dustyData,

Have you read about what daily trading in Wall Street is actually like nowadays?

It’s bots fighting each other for millisecond advantages in cents differences in prices. The only humans still participating are chumps sacrificing their money so it’s siphoned by the robots into hedge funds and financial risk management firms.

glassware,

I wouldn’t want a job making more money for hedge fund, but it’s such an interesting technical problem. They’re building custom hardware with FPGAs to parse price changes directly from network packets and respond before a normal CPU even knows what’s happening!

jarfil,

Don’t forget the AIs extracting engagement metrics, so that AIs can decide which articles to summarize and rewrite… for the cycle to repeat itself.
