A Standalone Instance That Is Not Like The Rest Of Lemmy: Open Sign-ups

***Please DM me if you are interested ***

Standalone Instance If Your Interested In Joining

We are NOT federated with the rest of lemmy The reason is safety issues when it comes to weirdos posting disgusting crap and it’s just chilling on your server.

Our admin team doesn’t want that liability.

One advantage with no federation is that we welcome you to post content you’ve created. Like memes or funny videos.

As long as you’re chill, posting in the appropriate community, we’re not going to lay the hammer on you. Or take down your post over dumb stuff.

Lastly, you should join our Instance if you feel your values align with ours. It’s important to note that we understand that at the end of the day, lemmy is just a hobby.

We don’t have a desire to be, we’ll, tyrants. People disagree, and we get that. Not everyone thinks the same or believes the same things. That’s just the truth.

We’re just regular people like anybody else and want a place where we can actually be ourselves and not walk on eggshells.

If you feel we might be a fit for you, feel free to sign up or message me with any questions.

Also, we understand the appeal that federation has for some folks. I’m not trying to push the idea that being standalone is better. If that’s not for you

We totally get that and hope you find a lemmy server that better suits your needs.

Thank you for your time

So what is it you feel the need to "walk on eggshells" about? Are you into fascism? Bestiality? Racism? Are you Moonies? Bitcoin enthusiasts? 7th-day Adventists? C'mon, give us a hint.

Maybe they are all of those things.

johntash,

I kinda want to know what a Moonie is, but I’m going to choose to believe it’s someone who believes the Nazis have colonized the dark side of the moon and are growing genetically engineered dinosaurs.

circuscritic,

They’re the reason Shinzo Abe got merked with a homemade volcano science project.

… I’m not joking.

Noo waaay... a standalone instance goin' about it their own way?!

/s

Not sure why people would choose a federating platform and them not federate. Just use phpbb and stfu about it.

WolnyCzlowiek,

Our admin team doesn’t want that liability.

Why would anyone want to view ‘disgusting’ and ‘unmoderated’ content?

finally, a lemmy instance which tolerates the posting of memes

PumpkinDrama,

Just don’t post about it in the fediverse community. Damn hypocrites.

solrize,

I don’t see much to attract me about this but I also don’t understand the massive downvoting. There’s nothing wrong with starting a forum, and if you’re going to do that, it’s perfectly fine to use the Lemmy software, and maybe even someday end up with some amount of federation.

I downvoted because they posted about an intentionally non-federated forum in the fediverse community. The post doesn't belong here.

Rentlar,

I didn’t downvote, but this post is short on details as to what purpose their new Lemmy server will serve, making it difficult for people to get on board with it. I tried to ask but didn’t get an answer.

I can't speak for others, but my downvote is because this post reeks of "free speech" enthusiasm. People looking to create a space they don't need to moderate and where people don't need to "walk on eggshells" is just the dog whistle way to say bigots who don't want to get called out or banned for their bigotry.
And you can tell, because if someone wants to create a genuinely safe space for everyone, moderation is an absolute necessity.

solrize, (edited )

The presence of those people on reddit never bothered me much. They stayed in their own niches and I stayed in mine. I’m fine with the idea of individual communities being safe spaces for particular groups but it’s likely impossible for any place to be safe for everyone.

A general purpose cooking community will be unsafe for vegans. A vegan community will be unsafe for BBQ chefs. A programming community that I want to be in might be unsafe for Java programmers (never date a Java programmer–they will treat you like an object). The best you can do is make sure that participation is voluntary and that edgier topics don’t overspill too much.

I’ve been on Usenet for decades. It was and is completely unmoderated. It was eventually destroyed by spam, not by bigots.

Lmfao, way to deliberately miss the point and make some completely irrelevant examples since neither vegans nor BBQ chefs, nor Java programmers are marginalised groups of people who need to be protected (and even if they were, you'd still need motherfucking moderation to keep them that way). But good to know where your head is at lol 🙄

And you're right - you can't make a safe space for everyone, because to make a safe space for most you have to not only exclude fascists and "regular" bigots, but make sure they don't have a safe space to exist in, because they will crawl out of it looking to abuse others. They always do.

Your "blind eye" bullshit just enables them, being outside of your perception doesn't mean they don't exist and aren't causing harm to other, actually marginalised people.

But hey, since the fascists don't bother you, then I guess we're ok.. 🙄🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Rentlar,

Isolated from federation is a personal dealbreaker (though I’m aware of its many difficulties), but I wish you success in creating a vibrant community based on your philosophy.

Overall sounds like a laissez-faire approach to moderation: though I’d be interested to hear more specifically on your values and philosophy that guides you.

Beehaw is an example of a well-defined philosophy and its similarity to your potential server appears to be a holistic approach to moderation. Still, there are many people who get upset on forums and think that Beehaw’s moderation actions are too harsh and there’s no such thing as “free speech” on that (or frankly any Lemmy) community. I found that most people banned due to somewhat toxic behaviour were given ample warnings.

Have a look at the stuff @gaywallet has written at great length on the philosophies, and principles Beehaw was founded on, and important discussions that have come up when it comes to fostering a community with that in mind.

You can use it to determine whether you are aiming for that kind of place minus the federation, or key value differences or areas you think better match your ethos.

Pinkburitto,

No, thank you, lol. we’re all set

Rentlar,

ok

ASeriesOfPoorChoices,

lol

electric,

Isn’t this basically that Beehaw site?

Pinkburitto,

We are not beehaw

will your walled commune instance respond to standard federation statistical requests like number of users, software version, etc?

or is there truly zero reason for you to utilize the lemmy platform?

muse,
muse avatar

Are y'all more fascy leaning, or "centrist" leaning that's going to be co-opted by fascies because you refuse to get political, thus allowing right wing ideologies to fester in the community? Because the "walk on eggshells" talk just sounds like code word for "we don't want to have to have repercussions for people posting bigoted content", and that's going to attract nothing but edgelords

In fact I'd rather take the scum that is Beehaw over this because you've given no information whatsoever about what kind of community you're fostering, besides wanting to be separate from literally everyone

I'd also go so far as to say that you shouldn't be poaching people across the fediverse if you're just going to be a glorified forum.
