Talisman is a good game, but the UI in this port can be very frustrating, especially in networked mode.
Examples: It freezes with no explanation while other players do trivial things like viewing their cards. It tends to play out the consequences of die rolls and player actions with no indication of what happened, sometimes leaving players who don’t perfectly recall the game rules mystified. It makes examining board tiles needlessly difficult. It implements optional player actions with a countdown timer that is both short and easy to miss, often leaving players either wondering how to perform those actions or feeling cheated once they realize they lost their chance. It treats any temporary network problem as though the affected player has quit, and immediately takes over their character, so they’re left suffering the consequences of the AI’s decisions after they reconnect. It offers no way to go back and correct the problems it causes.
Most of these things can be worked around if you figure out the quirks and learn to predict them, but you shouldn’t have to, IMHO. If you plan to play with friends, bring good humour and a couple extra large bags of tolerance for bad software design.
Might want to re-tag this one as [Forever-free Friday] (I think it’s Friday in the far east by now!) as this looks to have gone free-to-play permanently!
This one is pretty fun. Not the most in-depth “vampire survivors” clone out there, but it’s silly and free. Plenty of characters to unlock, more gear unlocks with characters but still after 20 ish characters my builds are always the same… Might be doing something wrong.
Def worth a try at minimum. Doubly so if you’re into the whole animu vtuber thing, or so I hear, so… the usual grain of salt.
I don’t know a thing about these streamers but the game plays fine. Some items require some reading, eg. bouncy balls -weapon scales with the bust size of the lady, cutting board -weapon does the inverse… The game doesn’t tell these stats, but the wiki does
Fun tunes, totally jamming these if they’d play in game or whatever situation I might be at (bar, party, whatever), but not really jams I’d specifically seek out to actively listen.
Still, happy I heard them, the carousel one did bop for me a bit, but … eh, I dunno. Cool stuff, maybe the overlord algorithm of youtube throws something bit more my jams on the frontpage at some point after going through these! :)
I played it for a bit yesterday, and I will say it’s a pretty good clone, though I think there’s some balance issues. However, it has some unique additions not found in the original, so it’s certainly a unique offering.
I loved this game, but the “true ending” felt like a weird design left turn. It traded the enjoyable platforming and combat for literal hell - and I’m no stranger to “getting gud”. The difficulty (of the true ending sequence) was RNG heavy and unfun (for me).
Excellent Metroidvania. I’ve only played Cave Story+, but the differences between the two are supposedly mostly minor, so I can definitely recommend this.
I’ve only played the original Freeware title. I can definitely recommend this. At the time I played it, it had an incredible impact on me, opening the door to the world of indies and the freeware scene in general. I can credit it with having a direct influence on me trying game development as a hobby. It’s wild how amazing of a game and how much polish it has for a free game made in 2004 by one dude. 20 years ago!
… Also, I’ve been reading forum threads debating if this is a metroidvania since at least 2010, possibly even earlier!
Huh! I never knew there was a way to get it to play on Android! Thanks!
Awesome game by the way. If you have finished it once, go look up the secret ending. Super hard to beat, but gives a lot of extra lore on what’s going on. There are YouTube videos about it if you are just curious.
Really good game and the expansions really help with the world. I put a lot of hours into this game, but Total War:Warhammer blows this out of the water.
