Python is great, but stuff like this just drives me up the wall (lemmy.world)

Explanation: Python is a programming language. Numpy is a library for python that makes it possible to run large computations much faster than in native python. In order to make that possible, it needs to keep its own set of data types that are different from python’s native datatypes, which means you now have two different...

Telorand,

bool_ via Numpy is its own object, and it’s fundamentally different from bool in Python (which is itself a subclass of int, whereas bool_ is not).

They function similarly, but they’re similar in the same way a fork and a spork can both be used to eat spaghetti.

Telorand,

Sweet! This one has been on my wishlist

Telorand,

So, they stole barely anything better than public information. I guess if you really wanted to, you could use the info to target a specific person with a known zero-day, since you know what hardware they potentially have, but not really something the average person should be worried about.

It’s interesting that it was so easy to do, though, and I hope Dell audits any other APIs they provide.

Telorand,

“We’re calling about your monitor’s extended warranty…”

Telorand,

“Syrup,” indeed though I’ve never seen someone use a honey dipper for syrup.

Telorand,

I’ll take a slow crawl over a dead sprint towards mass extinction events.

Thinking about buying more storage. Warn me of the lemons!

Anyone got any recommendations or warnings about specific hdd / ssd / storage brands or models at the moment? Thinking about buying another drive instead of being smart and cleaning up my files. I've been pretty happy with Samsung but I've heard they had a clunker of a drive with high failure rates lately. HDD, SSD and I think I...

Telorand,

Ew, no. For someone who invokes the concept of “listening to propaganda,” this sure sounds an awful lot like fossil fuel industry claptrap.

Telorand,

It sounds like you’re basically saying that because scientists talk about the negatives of fossil fuels a lot and not as much about renewables’ negatives, there’s some kind of cover-up effort. Is that what you’re saying?

Telorand,

The two core principles of Conservatism, of which Christian Fundamentalism is a part:

  • I get to do what I want.
  • You have to do what I say.

In the Religious Conservative’s mind, free speech means they get to say whatever they want about whomever they want (I get to do what I want). At the same time, free speech limitations suddenly apply when you have anything critical to say about their religion (you have to do what I say).

Telorand,

Nice to see we can expect some improved update deliveries with Desync. Now, if only they could implement a way to layer persistent packages like you can with rpm-ostree

Telorand,

I wonder why that is that zram didn’t make it. Bazzite (and maybe some others) make use of zram, but maybe they feel like their testing doesn’t yet have enough coverage to ship it, and perhaps it will be in 3.6.1 or be added as a late addition to the 3.6.0 build.

Telorand,

Here is a summary of the data for Texas:

  • Home price-to-income ratio: 4.1
  • Median home price: $298,624
  • Median household income: $72,284
  • 5-year change in median home price: +45.1%
  • Mortgage holders spending >30% of income on housing: 28.9%

For reference, here are the statistics for the entire United States:

  • Home price-to-income ratio: 4.7
  • Median home price: $347,716
  • Median household income: 74,755
  • 5-year change in median home price: +49.2%
  • Mortgage holders spending >30% of income on housing: 27.8%

So the home to price income ratio might be slightly better than the national average, but more people are spending more on their mortgage than the national average. So more people in Texas are more broke than they are on average, so not exactly a win.

Telorand,

If it was me, I’d take the deal. They obviously don’t give a shit about even their successful teams.

Telorand,

Getting to some old testing automation projects that have been on hold.

Best Graphic card for Linux Gaming (lemmy.wtf)

Are they some graphic card benchmark for linux environment ? From my windows experience, drivers are important, and often underestimate. My linux gaming experience is very bad, lots of my game are unstable, and others use a lot more resources than with windows. However, when I ask people, some of them have no issue at all, even...

Telorand,

Another consideration is whether they are plugged into the graphics card. Common performance “problems” arise when somebody tries to plug into the video-out on the motherboard, so they could be accidentally forcing the use of the iGPU, if present.

Telorand,

I think that’s more of a proof that I shouldn’t answer these before I’ve had my caffeine. Good catch!

Telorand,

That is, because supposedly that limitation still affects Windows. Do you use supergfxctl?

Telorand,

I just remembered that that package isn’t compatible with Plasma 6 (yet), so maybe it got dropped from the official repos when they officially released 40.

Telorand,

Tl;dr

“The Republican is like, ‘They’re trying to ban gas cars — I’m not going to buy a Biden-mobile,’” said Mike Murphy, a former Republican strategist who runs the nonprofit EV Politics Project, which attempts to counter misinformation on electric cars and encourage conservatives to adopt the vehicles.

Wow, I’m shocked. Shocked, I tell you. If “gullibility” was a person, they’d vote for Republicans.

Telorand,

And that’s precisely why QA still exists and why it shouldn’t be the devs. And yet, you’ll still wind up with weird situations, despite your best efforts!

Telorand,

Maybe you need better signage. Maybe you need to reverse the direction of the door. Maybe you could automate the door. Or maybe the user is just fucking stupid. 😄
