CyberTailor, it’s bouba
unreasonabro, clearly its a starfish reproducing with a sea slug. silly question
TankovayaDiviziya, Ireland meanwhile spent €5 million for a giant metal dildo.

dlhextall, And in Montréal, we have
Agent641, In Perth we have this weird vagina-like sculpture
https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/c46a28bf-a5e4-45ef-847a-cd3f46e72a56.jpeg
Death_Equity, How on earth is that considered yonic?
menemen, And yet you have no problem with that spike being called a dildo?
Death_Equity, Everything is a dildo if you are brave enough, you can’t stick your dick in everything. I don’t make the rules, the judge just tells me what they are when I’m on parole.
Ashe, I actually really like this one tbh.
I might be biased though because I have a picture of myself slav squatting in front of it with the winter art installation behind me
dlhextall, Yeah, no hate from me either, just another huge form-based sculpture.
Itdidnttrickledown, Came here expecting a Scottish ‘ITS CRAAAAP’
Treczoks, Well, art is often made for the purpose of provoking questions. I’d say “mission accomplished” here.
DragonTypeWyvern, (the mission was someone’s side piece getting paid)
KevonLooney, These pictures posted in this thread are all definitely “art”. You can tell because they clearly provoke emotion, even if that emotion is confusion.
But remember, just because it’s art doesn’t mean it’s good art.
Treczoks, But remember, just because it’s art doesn’t mean it’s good art.
That’s the point most people in arts love to ignore, it seems.
ColeSloth, Looks like a…erm…how do I put it…a chocolate starfish that’s had a breach.
gedaliyah, Look, we’re all seeing it. Not point in euphemisms c/DontStickYourMileInThatMarker
hswolf, You better keep on rolling baby, you know what time it is
Paradachshund, I’ve got spurs, that jingle jangle jingle
tal, www.sustrans.org.uk/…/millennium-mileposts
The Scottish sculptor Iain McColl designed the second post, The Cockerel.
The influences behind this one are Miro’s The Fork and Branusci’s The Cock.
Here’s The Cock:
Viking_Hippie, (edited ) I’m ALMOST sure that’s not what a cock is supposed to look like…
Also, “here’s the cock” is such a weird sentence fragment regardless of context 😄
Death_Equity, It looks about right to me. Should I see a doctor?
Viking_Hippie, Either that or an appraiser!
ralakus, BEHOLD
THE COCK
match, Diogenes walls in dragging a chicken fursuiter
m0darn, The sculptor reportedly said:
“Le Coq c’est moi”
“The Cock is me”
Also related:
Coq means rooster in French and is not used as an insult or a euphemism for the penis at all.
But your mileage may vary.
sibannac, Miro’s The fork makes sense. The Cock however seems like a stretch.
Zozano, Uncultured swine, that’s Fass from Warframe
MisterD, It’s a defective plumbus https://lemmy.ca/pictrs/image/174c823a-5be5-4670-9131-625d6b2e742f.jpeg
naeap, Yeah, it has the typical star shape on the top, plumbuses get, when they turn to fossils
Diabolo96, Probably one of the monstrosities Lovecraft described in his stories. I read the stories in French and I could only barely imagine what the f he was talking about but maybe the artist read the first words describing an ‘Elder thing’ and decided it would look cool ? That or it’s meant to represent a fleshy palm tree and the hole in the middle is its gaping mouth ready to devour jaywalkers ?
scthatheworm, I’m all for art, but these subsidy hunting pieces need to die already or is gonna be the death of public funding for art itself. If it doesn’t convey anything, what is the point of placing it in public?
harmsy, I can’t agree more. Abominations like these are a waste of material.

sibannac, It’s a mile marker. Besides the number in the middle, it doesn’t scream mile marker but I guess it is functional if you know.
clearleaf, They can be interesting for a little while but the artists never seem to be thinking about the people who will have to see it every single day, they only think about themselves and the statement they want to make. It’s completely egotistical and creates an environment that feels the opposite of welcoming and inclusive.
kilgore_trout, I like this statement.
In the end every instinct to share something with others is egothistical, since we believe what we find great or interesting must be for everyone else too. Even writing this comment I am convinced that it’s worth enough for you to read.
Betch, I can hear this picture
PhlubbaDubba, I’ve seen some stuff like this being set up in pedestrianization efforts, IIRC it’s basically hostile architecture but for assholes who drive too fast in pedestrian dense areas.
nifty, How does slow them down? Like they get distracted by confusing or thought provoking art?
PhlubbaDubba, It’s a big fucking statue strategically placed to be an obstacle for through traffic to have to slow down to be sure they’re getting past safely
TotallyNotSpez, True Scottish art looks like this!
…wikipedia.org/…/Equestrian_statue_of_the_Duke_of…
Shiny, shiny hat…
ininewcrow, Beautiful, this is why indigenous people loved the Scots and the Irish so much
vaultdweller013, Also my ancestors sold them firearms, cause who doesnt like a musket.
TotallyNotSpez, Aw, you’re too kind! :)
FlyingSquid, Now that is a work of art.
eya, i visited this in person, they even sell mini versions of the statue with the cone on the head. kind of weird that the government still considers it “vandalism” at this point
bort, if they would stop calling it vandalism, it would take away all the fun
BleatingZombie, I also worry what some people would do next to keep the tradition of vandalism going
