Why aren't pictures loading on my timeline any more? I have to click through to see anything, otherwise I just get the blurs. #FediTips#Masto#Mastodon@trumpet
@alex_galt Your instance creates a local cache of the images. If you have to click on an image in order for it to load, it means that the cache isn't populated. Your instance is going out and getting the image from the remote server on demand in that case.
@alex_galt Very strange! Is this happening for all images, in your timeline, regardless of whether they're on mas.to or another server? Might be worth checking in your preference under 'Appearance', to make sure you don't have ‘Always hide media' set under the Sensitive Content section.
@trumpet It's sporadic, maybe about 10% of images are showing up. Looks like most of the people I follow are on different instances. I checked my settings and it should be fine.
@alex_galt Really very strange. So this is happening in Safari on both your phone and your computer. And on your phone it happens over WiFi or cellular (so two completely different networks). Are you using VPNs or anything like that, or any strange network setup?
And as i understand it, the images are blurred out, but do appear when you click on them?
And you did confirm that you don't have the option to hide media selected in your preferences.
@trumpet Nope, no VPNs and I did check the hide media setting. This is what it looks like on my end. They will load slowly if I click on them. And today they do seem to be loading, just taking about 30 second per image.
@trumpet On my iPhone that took about 7 seconds to fully appear. Photos like that should be pretty near instantaneous. Is anyone else having issues like this?
@alex_galt Only two or three people other than yourself that I know about! If it was a really big problem we'd know about it! There must be something odd going on....
