Try using #hashtags in your post. FYI: I think that may help get your post viewed and commented on more often. Also FYI: I'm not really a good person to listen to because I'm going off my failing #memory of what someone #tooted a few months ago.
Adding relevant hashtags to posts, and even some detailed replies, will make your posts appear in the home timelines of those who are following those tags whether they follow you or not.
It doesn't hurt to add a few important tags to your profile, also, so people can find you by topic.
