noodlejetski,

Lemmy's/kbin's mobile website is actually usable, so for once I actually don't feel desperate for an app in order to get a decent browsing experience.

kbins android app auto rotates when i try to use it laying down on my side. this happens even when my general android settings are locked in vertical. so I'm just on firefox for now

noodlejetski,

wait, kbin has already got an app available? I wasn't aware.

psychothumbs,

Ive always been on rif, never even heard of Apollo until this whole API catastrophe. Now I feel like I'm missing out!

darkmugglet,

Meh, you weren't. RIF is for us Android Troglodytes. If you are using Android, you are either poor or care how you spend your money. Either way, for RIF was the best $2.99 I ever spent.

psychothumbs,

Oh Apollo was apple only? Strange it gets so much attention - who uses Apple anymore, what a racket

loreasaurus,

I intentionally switched to an iPhone this year, haha. Got fed up enough with my Pixel that I said fuck it and moved. It’s not as big a difference as I was expecting it to be.

iPhone 12 mini was my first and recently upgraded to 14 Pro Max. Switching from S10+ to 12 mini was a huge change in screen size, but other than that there was a very high degree of feature parity. Many of the apps were the same. I liked some things better, some things less. I didn't like Apollo very much coming from rif. After using it for a couple of years now I used rif on Android for the first time in a while and I had the same feeling as when I first used Apollo. I think they are basically equally as good. Rif feels like an android app and Apollo feels like an iOS app.

BigJim,

Funny I did the opposite this year. Got fed up with iPhone and moved to Pixel. I knew things were more open and tweakable with Android but it has surpassed my expectations so far.

Can you go in to more detail on the openness, and what you've been able to tweak? I love doing this with most technology in my life, but have always stuck with Apple for phones for stability.

for real! i had an iPhone years ago and in less than a year, went back to Android. never again will I use an Apple product. they are so restrictive, overpriced, and go obsolete way too quickly. I have a Pixel 6 Pro the feels like a new flagship phone still.

I use an iPad and Apollo was pretty damn good on that. I don't think it was as well optimised for iPad as it was iPhone, but it worked a whole lot better than the official Reddit app. Definitely gonna miss it when Reddit pulls the plug.

jesse_mccree,

about 1 billion+ people globally...

butternut,

I just downloaded the Mlem TestFlight. The design feels very Apollo-inspired, it’s great so far!

darkmugglet,

Where do I get this mystical magic?

Goodtoknow,

be careful with testflights folks, that could be anything.

MentallyExhausted,

Yeah, I’m using it too, but I find myself using the web more. Functionality is very limited ATM, but I’m excited that it’s in active development.

ndr,

I can’t fully replace the web version with Mlem just yet, but the app is much smoother and faster for me. Sometimes loading posts take a few seconds on the web version and it’s really annoying if you just want to go in and out real quick

Yeah a bit of both for me, both have benefits and drawbacks I feel
