corship, The reason is that some of the co2 from the air dissolves in the water when standing for long enough (but not too long so it doesn’t get stale) resulting in a different taste.
Polar, After learning about how much bacteria grows in a used cup of bed side water, I cannot bring myself to drink anything that sits there for more than a few hours.
