@mrcompletely wow that bit makes Vassar Clements’s work with Old And In The Way (the title track of which is the only song with lyrics that David Grisman wrote to date) seem pretty mainstream for a great old fiddle player.
@AllFallDown this was pretty normal for him after O&ITW! Not long after that he hooked up with Dickey Betts for a bunch of great music, then started making what he called (and frequently booked as) "Hillbilly Jazz" - as you hear, that was a very diverse thing! I was working at a venue he played at in that late 90s era, a year or two before that clip, it was a killer show and he was a fantastic and fun old gent
