Just got invited to a pre Dead and Co happy hour sponsored by a publicly traded REIT so all I need now is an EDC tie in and I'll hit the trifecta.

I am very much looking forward to the noncongruous overlap of EDC folk, Dead and Co fam, and about 30,000 commercial real estate people that is about to descend upon Vegas. And there's always much more mixed in I'm not even mentioning

I’d be ok with banning popcorn.

I mean, I don’t dislike it as a vessel for butter and/or sugar/spice. But I certainly wouldn’t miss it if it was gone. So much shit to pick out of your teeth. Always the potential for a tooth-cracking unpopped kernel.

Popcorn has earned more of our love than it deserves.

THANK YOU!! this is one of the two major traffic frustrations I have living in Massachusetts where everyone thinks they are being helpful and friendly but are actually slowing things down by trying to do this ALL. THE. TIME.

LostReflector,
@LostReflector@shakedown.social avatar

haha very likely... I find I am generally one of the most aggressive drivers when not in my home market simply for driving here all the time. this is the only place I've lived where someone will cut you off and then give you the finger for the courtesy of having cut you off. I see this behavior in the xkcd comic every single day and have witnessed innumerable near misses along with several I-told-you-so accidents

@mrcompletely yes I loved that sketch. taken to the extreme!

the other big pet peeve is something I call the "Massachusetts Left" because I haven't seen it anywhere else.

two lane road and a person is trying to turn left from a side street. rather than wait for both lanes to be clear so they can make the turn, they will stick their car out, blocking traffic in one direction until someone in the other lane allows them to turn left. effectively blocking one lane until the other lets them in

still wild to think that Col Bruce went out the way he did. only he could have pulled off the actual musician-dying-on-stage thing without anyone seeing it as anything but the culmination of everything the man was

LostReflector,

@mrcompletely these are the details that help us realize it was not, in fact, all planned but instead just what was meant to happen

@mrcompletely I just saw your Sam-Bush-shaking-his-head-in-disbelief-at-Tony-Rice-picking gif in the wild in a bluegrass memes FB group.

@mrcompletely one guy posted it and another was like "what is that gif called I must have it!"

I love having friends with incredibly different music backgrounds and interests.

it adds to the joy of IT when you can both share new things with receptive listeners AND know that you will be introduced to wonderful, new paths to explore in the seemingly endless parade of auditory art

today's example from DJ Junior D (a not on masto encyclopedia of house, electronic, and ambient music) is an interpretation of Eno's Music For Airports by Psychic Temple with Mike Watt

I will be very curious to hear what the auds from #sphere sound like. it could be a wildly different tape depending on where one was in the venue

Sometimes I wonder what happens if instead of it only happening once during a unique, benefit gig decides to cover Eno on a more regular basis*

Even from Another Green World "I'll Come Running" doesn't seem like the track that logically makes sense for them to cover yet here we are

*(and no, I'm not putting their brand of "ambient phish" in the same vein as the genre he created except perhaps in the intention of creating music to fit the space/mood which they do so well)

If you're looking for blistering technique and power combined with sweeping phrasing and effortless melodic improvisation, it is hard to beat a 1997 Taste.

Literally any Taste from that year will deliver all of that.

Here's one that doesn't particularly stand out for 1997 and yet the crowd gives a well-deserved 45-second ovation after it. And it was only the 4th song of the night.

Find me another band that can do this and I'll follow them around the country.

@drewphish those who don't recognize that 1997 is the "Best Year Ever" for Taste are fooling themselves

LostReflector,
@LostReflector@shakedown.social avatar

@mrcompletely @drewphish I'm fine saying it is a top tier song for me personally. Seeing the evolution of the song in real time fall 95, the blossoming to fruition post Billy Breathes reworking, and the interpolation of the Norwegian Wood and WTU? themes really endeared me to the song. It isn't was it was but they can still hit that mantric space in the few minutes of jam it does enjoy

anyone out there in mastodon have any leads on tapes of the gone-too-soon Mary And Mars project that Sharon Gilchrist, Ben Wright, and Josh Martin put together in the early 2000s?

I have untagged mp3s of their 2003 self titled album but would love to find some shows (and FLACs of that album as well as the one live release they put out too if I'm gonna get greedy...)

here's their take on Cold Rain & Snow which has been a fav for me ever since I first heard it
