Dear and friends, when others post about something they've made, don't reply with "do this thing you're doing on a platform I like, or using the tool I prefer". :levburdislike:

If it's nor for you, just ignore it. Don't alienate others by jumping on something they're excited about sharing with the world. If people want that feedback or help, they'll ask for it.

Our own projects & posts are the best way to grow awareness & expand possibility spaces. :levburlike:

tail,

@eloquence don't you kind of open yourself up for that criticism by posting publicly about it?

@tail @eloquence you don't give people your opinion without being asked for it IRL, so why do you feel obligated to trash volunteer work when you can just.. pass by. This entitled mindset is dangerous and shouldn't be mixed up with healthy discussion.

tail,

@mah i would definitely give someone my opinion if i was talking to someone IRL. i dont think it's too entitled--i would feel sorry if somebody felt like they needed to hold their tongue if they thought i would be helpful to their own personal needs. not really sure what exactly OP was talking about exactly since it seems like more of a subpost, but a suggestion to focus my efforts on something someone enjoys doesn't sound unhealthy to me if that's what they are getting at

@tail not exactly, uncommon extreme cases like death threats are very common in OSS communities because everyone has a sense of entitlement of how a project should be run or what it's missing, no one does anything they only have some strong words :3

Open the door for "criticism" in OSS development online, you open the door for the Nazi accusations because you don't support theming.

The space is toxic and tiring, and most of the time, devs aren't looking for your opinions, unless called for.

@mah @tail there is no point of this conversation because; I have experienced similar stuff already, I myself had criticism against me, but that doesn't mean it was entirely unbacked/bad actually quite the opposite: criticism allows us to make better stuff. You are talking about special extreme cases where I also agree, I wouldn't allow that. However, based on solely the fact a person thinks is bad for everyone, we shouldn't silence the person, because we may not know they are or aren't right.
