wait! is this basically a 3d version of that 2d tank game with merv missiles and nukes and such where you would give angle and power and fire. man what was the name of that?
Great game. GoT, LotR, american civil war, britian, south america. great maps although some could use better indicators of what areas can reach what areas. The ai cheats and works together against the player though.
I can recommend Endless Sky (apparently it's very similar to Escape Velocity if you are familiar with that but I've never played it). It's a 2D space sandbox about outfitting ships, ferrying passengers or cargo, trading, fighting off pirates (or becoming one yourself), and above all political intrigue and human/alien diplomacy. The best bit for me was the story and writing, which I rank at the second best out of all games I've seen so far. It will also interest you if you are into the sort of min-maxing puzzles that go like 'how can I fit the maximum amount of thrusters and guns subject to these mass and volume constraints while dealing with power consumption and heat'.
Sadly, I found this game to be terrible because it had so many typos, way too small font, and lack of redundancy in the tutorial to handle player mistakes; I accidentally destroyed an enemy unit using the wrong type (or something like that) and it got stuck and wouldn't let me finish. It just seemed poorly made.
