When editing on the go, @everydoor is my hands-down favorite, but I'd hesitate recommending it for more new mappers.

I've been playing with just now, and really like how easy it is, maybe even for new contributors.

Plus, it's a progressive web app that runs in a browser, or installable in your device: https://osmgo.com , so this also seems to be a great candidate tool to introduce as a friendly editor for @openstreetmap mapping parties for new users.

I use @openstreetmap a lot, via +, and I'd love to give back to the map commons. The biggest problems I see are not with the basic data (streets etc), since the NZ govt's own map data is released under CC license, and updates to it are quickly imported into .

Rather what I see is outdated info about what can be found at a given address. Any advice of helping to update that kind of data? Is it part of OSM or other data commons used by OSMAnd+?

@strypey @MapAmore @openstreetmap @everydoor its all OSM data. Havent tried OSM Go yet, but can recommend streetcomplete and every door.

Are these available on F-Droid?

@strypey @MapAmore @openstreetmap @everydoor they are. there is although SCEE (Street complete Extended Edition) that allows for a lot more tags to be edited and some more nifty customization options. Its on F-Droid too.

This sounds powerful. Would you recommend it for a beginner?

@strypey @MapAmore @openstreetmap @everydoor if you haven't contributed to osm at all i recommend starting out with street complete get a little feel for what data can be atatched to what kind of nodes.
would recommend https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Beginners%27_guide anyways, no matter what way you want to contribute by.

if you are willing to do a bit of reading in the wiki, i like the editing plugin for OsmAnd, there you can add some other tags that are not implemented in SC (yet) on the road, i addition to SC.

@strypey @MapAmore @openstreetmap @everydoor but everydoor should be able to take this roll too. and its a little bit smoother in the workflow than the OsmAnd plugin. I didnt know about everydoor back when i started and got quite used to the OsmAnd way.

Thanks, I'll have a look. Having editing it in the map app I already use sounds good.

@strypey

POIs in general are hard to maintain. Even Big G is struggling with that on their maps.

Theme-specific POIs are probably slightly better, when there are interested parties who are keen to maintain them, or keep them up-to-date.

If you don't like to map them directly yourself, when you're on site, then you're next bet is to use fresh (and compatible) ground imagery, to map them when you can.

I have ADHD. If I can't do it right away when I notice the problem, I'm unlikely to remember. So what I need is an Android app that makes it quick and easy to submit an update (with appropriate license) whenever I notice a discrepancy.

Yes, you can add lots of data directly to OSM about PoIs etc. Do you have an example of where the data is lacking, and what you think should be there? What sort of device do you want to contribute with? (Desktop Webrowser/ Apple? Android? paper?)

@amapanda
> Do you have an example of where the data is lacking

The most common ones are when a cafe or restaurant has moved and OSMAnd+ still shows it in the old location, or a new one has opened where another one used to be, and OSMAnd+ still shows the details for the old one at that location.

> What sort of device do you want to contribute with?

For now, Android. But eventually PinePhone.

For beginners, there is also MapComplete.org

Mannivu,

The only problem I have with OSMGo is that when adding a crossing the software doesn’t merge it with a nearby way (as opposed to EveryDoor). Otherwise it’s a great app.

@Mannivu
And EveryDoor has an existing issue with certain features (e.g. memorial plaques) getting unwantedly snapped on nearby buildings.

@beta_tester thanks, I sometimes use the fork, aka the "Expert Edition", but not
