How can we make sure their privacy claims about search aren’t bullshit?

(I still trust them though, just pointing out it is an equivalent problem)

Mobilizon v/s Nextcloud (v/s other?) for a network of people event calendar

I have been given the task of finding a proper platform for building a network of education, medical and other initiatives in my country, that have all the same focus (I am sorry I can’t give details yet on the project, but you could probably could get a grasp of the idea if you think in something like a church whose...

Cool! I love the concept of Mobilizon, but the user experience has bitten me quite often. Gancio looks really nice!

Do you take pictures with GPS tags on?

Hiya, so quickly wondering wether you have enabled this or not. Obviously it’s not great for privacy, but it also seems very nice to have for image cloud solutions, so that images can be sorted based on location. Are there any good solutions for this? I’d like have it enabled, but also afraid of sharing images with sensitive...

Shoutout to f-droid.org/en/…/deckers.thibault.aves.libre/, which shows your pictures on a map without any cloud service.

In Chiba city, it is described as “The sky above the port”

I’m gonna be giving a bit of contrarian advise here: don’t force yourself. No-one asked you to do this all, so take it easy and one bit at a time. If you are a volunteer, just have some fun with it. When you don’t feel like continuing anymore, don’t.

Another piece of advice: “if you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together”. (But the latter is more work). If you live in a medium-sized (or bigger) city, maybe there are a few people interested in joining? Post to the local facebook group and do a small gathering with a cup of tea and map together.

Yes, github actions. Or maybe checkout github pages? As long as your website doesn’t need an SQL-database, it’ll work and will be free

I used this one or a similar one a while back. Pure magic. It started downloading a ton of stuff, and half an hour later I was greated by a (slow) macOS, good enough to do some tests of my webapp on Safari.

Your title is a big lie. “One simple step”?

  1. Install left gate
  2. Install right gate
  3. Add traffic signs
  4. Add pedestrian icon to street

See, this is at least 4 steps! I call bullshit!

In all seriousness, this is indeed great. Next step is to remove some of the now unneeded asphalt and replace it with greenery

As European, thatvis not true in my case! (I get funded by them)

Seeking: Kid-friendly Adventure/Exploration Games (PC)

My daughter (4) is very into exploring cities, homes and villages in Skyrim, feeding aliens in No Man’s Sky, and cleaning houses in House Flipper. She gets annoyed in games like House Flipper because she can’t leave the property to explore all of the visible houses on the block. I’d like to find other PC games that are...

One can perfectly use matrix for chat as well, especually with e.g. Fluffychat as client.

And yes, matrix is encrypted too

For toilets and showers: mapcomplete.org/toiletsFor drinking water: mapcomplete.org/drinking_water (edit: I erroneously pasted the toilet-link here before as well)

No, I copy-pasted the same link twice accidentally. Edited and corrected now.

There will never be ‘more momentum’ if you don’t build it. Just kick it off and host this person, others will follow.

Apart from the @vespucci_editor and @osmandapp , do you know of any other mobile editor that supports custom tile layers?

@openstreetmap

What would you use it for?

When editing on the go, @everydoor is my hands-down favorite, but I'd hesitate recommending it for more new mappers.

I've been playing with just now, and really like how easy it is, maybe even for new contributors.

Plus, it's a progressive web app that runs in a browser, or installable in your device: https://osmgo.com , so this also seems to be a great candidate tool to introduce as a friendly editor for @openstreetmap mapping parties for new users.

For beginners, there is also MapComplete.org

In Belguim, we are importing the official building dataset into OSM, but it is a slow process.

what are you looking for in the upcoming year(s) for osm?

My biggest wish is that there’s an easy way to contribute images to wikimedia and to link them easily with osm. As soon as that’s possible, we’ll map the world much quicker and more reliable. Someone might take pictures of benches and another one will add the info if there’s a backrest from home.

pietervdvn,
@pietervdvn@lemmy.ml avatar

What do you mean with “it’s not accessible to the broad public”? The pictures get linked properly with an ‘image’-tag, so it shows up in e.g. OsmAnd.

With mapcomplete, it is literally clicking ‘upload image’, taking a picture and waiting for it to be uploaded?
