Pelosi was able to do far more with 221 members than what McCarthy will be forced to accept as “victories”.

He’s just terrible at this. He could have 275 members in his majority and he’d still be completely unable to pass any kind of legislation, period.

The problem here is that Republicans aren’t generally interested in passing legislation or good government. Their focus is and has been gaining power and enriching/protecting their friends. To them, their role in government is to rule the public, not to serve it. The goal is to destroy public faith in these institutions so they can be dismantled and sold off to profit-based organizations. They’ve been working on this since the 50s.

McCarthy’s not concerned with their lack of legislative successes. He’s concerned with cementing his authority in the House.

But I feel like the Democrats’ equivalent House members who would do this are still interested in a working government and making incremental change. I don’t see any decent speaker being able to control those 20 some Republicans.
