HobbitFoot,

So, I think forums are a form of social media, so trying to say this is a forum and not social media isn’t a good argument for me.

HobbitFoot,

And the Marquis of Arizona sent gallons of the finest iced tea.

HobbitFoot,

The problem is that cable subsidized streaming for a long time and no one really knows how much television can be sustained on streaming only budgets, including Netflix.

Of course, the big production companies thought the best way going forward would be make premium content, but the market doesn’t seem large enough for that.

HobbitFoot,

And how many basic moms go on about their coffee?

HobbitFoot,

Just don’t stare at one thing that long.

Look at your food when cutting it.

Look at others when talking in conversation. Keep at least half your eye contact on the person talking, but look at others for their reactions as well.

If there is something interesting between two people, rest your eyes there for a while.

People will notice long term staring more than short shifts

HobbitFoot,

I didn’t know all of Israel was from Buenos Aires.

HobbitFoot,

The point right now is determining what the sticking points are and why. This may not matter to Israel, but it does matter to the larger international community including the USA.

Israel has benefited in this conflict by having good enough diplomatic support to prevent a major escalation in the region. However, it is going to be a lot harder for countries like Egypt and Jordan to continue supporting Israeli security in the region as the counterattack looks more like a genocide. The issue is even becoming a pain point for Biden, who needs this issue to go away before the election.

I don’t see Israel changing its mind because of this, but I see the other countries in the region doing so.

HobbitFoot,

Not exactly. The type of rental discussed in the article is short term, not long term like an apartment.

Also, there will probably be a response in the industry, but it could end up being better overall. For instance, an appliance may end up being designed more for repair and have a longer design lifespan as there are fewer, but more educated, consumers of the appliances. I would expect a steam cleaner that has to run two times a week to be more expensive than one that has to run two times a year.

HobbitFoot,

I didn’t say tool makers would stop it.

But there is a difference in design philosophy between pro tools and amateur tools. I would expect that, if the market shifts to more kinds of tools, the design of those tools will shift as well.

In China, where authoritarianism is justified by redefining the term, a woman has reportedly been beaten to death during interrogation after accusing police of murdering her husband (dominotheory.com)

The reason behind the husband’s death is equally uncertain, except to say that he died in prison in East Turkestan (Xinjiang) when serving a sentence for the “crime” of accessing overseas websites, one of six men from the same village to leave this world in similar circumstances....

HobbitFoot,

Yeah, there is bias in the article, but what is being misrepresented?

HobbitFoot,

Just because it is efficient doesn’t mean it is enough.

HobbitFoot,

Most European cities try to keep their historic cores intact, with Amsterdam being no exception. Amsterdam has nodes around the city that can facilitate denser construction, but those nodes are probably not enough and don’t give residents the historic character of living in the center city.

I've noticed a lot of chill religious people on Lemmy.

Idk why I’m mentioning it but compared to a lot of other online platforms where if religion is being mentioned outside of a religious community it is really in your face on Lemmy it seems like when it is mentioned outside of that kind of community it seems relevant to whatever they are saying and are generally nice....

HobbitFoot,

I get the feeling is because the politics of the unchill religious people wouldn’t be accepted on Lemmy.

HobbitFoot,

I find it funny when the EU adopts a trade position similar to China and then all the Chinese Tankies get mad that the EU isn’t doing a full capitalism.

HobbitFoot,

It is similar to how the US and China treated Taiwan. There is a fundamental disagreement with the territory, but it isn’t worth the cost of trying to resolve the issue over maintaining the status quo.

HobbitFoot,

Part of the problem is that most policing is a state and local affair, so very little is going to be written at the federal level.

HobbitFoot,

A similar thing happened in Vietnam. News agencies went against the DoD narrative, causing the war to become wildly unpopular. A huge effort went into preventing that on television, which is why people who mainly get their news from TV find the Israeli counterattack justified.

HobbitFoot,

I thought more recent studies have placed the missing mass as the collective mass of the Oort Cloud, especially as the plutinos have been found to have wildly different orbits than the inner rocky planets and the gas giants.

HobbitFoot,

What would it be typical? I would expect a WAN to cover the planet and specific services geared towards sending packets back and forth between Earth.

An interesting idea is if a sneakernet system will be a good idea in space.

HobbitFoot,

Cher used auto tune a lot and most of her career was in the 70’s.

HobbitFoot,

You could be a bad singer before Auto tune and still have a career.
