This is built in to the system either with the three dots in the top right when viewing a photo or by tapping options when using the share menu. What about using an iPhone is not good for privacy? Like any other device it’s about how you have it setup and how you use it. Privacy is the default in quite a few areas.

WeLoveCastingSpellz,

Apples operating systems are propertiary and Apple does collect your data so that they can sell it to advertisers. You can’t even operate their devices without an account

„Now that we’ve established that Apple collects and uses your data to serve ads, does it sell your data too? Turns out the answer is No, Apple doesn’t sell your data to third-party advertisers. The Cupertino giant possesses the exclusive rights of showing you ads on the App Store and other apps. This means your data is used by Apple to show ads, but not sold to any other advertisers.“

Linus_Torvalds,

Can you

  • Load a Custom ROM (along the likes of LineageOS, GrapheneOS, …) on your iPhone
  • use alternative app stores that are not a walled garden (like F-Droid)
  • sideload apps alltogether without an App Store ?

(If there are possibilities, then please tell me and I will reevaluate my opinion. This is not meant as flame, rather as criticism 🤨 .)

  1. no and just a 0,0x% of android users do that
  2. yes
  3. yes

Now leave.

Linus_Torvalds,

Assuming there are 2.5 billion active android devices out there, aand there are 3.2 million LineageOs devices, which is definetively a lower bound, as many users deactivate telemetry or use another ROM, this equals ~0.1% of all Android phones.

If you look at the country stats, that percentage is even higher for the US.

And you are missing another point alltogether: Percentages are deceiving when it comes to sufh immense numbers like # of Android users. 0.00x% can (and do!) still form a meaningful, thriving, somewhat large community.

As to your other points: I was wrong apparently. But I was explicitly asking for dissent. You were just rude.

A very elaborate way to say „I like to shit on apple because I can’t even come up with an original online identity“, get a life already, no one cares about your 2012 style brand flame war.

Linus_Torvalds,

Lmao cry and seethe stay hardstuck apple /b/ro enjoy non free licences, stay mad kid, im sorry I just wasted 10 mins of your corpo cuck life, now watch 10 min ads as you fantasize about the AI revolution. Btw, learn to code, its empowering ;-)

NiaTheCat,

For the last two you do have limited sideloading via things like Altstore, the catch is that without a developer account you have to refresh the apps once a week or they can’t be opened anymore, and you can only do it for three apps at a time (including the altstore app).

There are other ways but that’s the only one I know without jailbreaking.

Back when I had an iPhone I always had an emulator and a third party YouTube app sideloaded

yoshisaur,

About the 3 apps… If your iPhone can use the MacDirtyCow (MDC) exploit, you can actually have up to (I think) 8 or 9 sideloaded apps. I believe mdc works from 16.0 to 16.1.2
