Watching a few interviews/appearances with #SinéadOConnor, obviously the Late Late with Gay Byrne but also this interview with Arsenio Hall. There's a real gentleness and strength together in Sinéad, and those who had the greatest rapport with Sinéad met that gentleness with their own gentleness. #MastoDaoine
This is why Pat Kenny and Tubridy and many others in Irish and other media couldn't have a proper rapport with Sinéad, they couldn't meet that gentleness.
(Tubridy's interviews and interactions are frankly cringeworthy and I find it hard to watch them).
Gay Byrne's interviews with her could, albeit a bit paternalistically at times, but he could find that gentleness. I don't have as much time for him as many, but I will give him that.
@Lamhfada I've rewatched all three of them interacting with her over the last few hours. They share the same patronizing attitude towards her
But Tubridy barely contains his disregard for her when she questions the 10k competition running, and literally cuts to commerical while defending "sponsorship". Remarkable scene. We had no idea!
While Kenny tries to argue with her about clerical abuse with the weakest sauce before inviting her to fucking sing.
@alisca@Lamhfada We watched the Nothing Compares documentary here last night, and there are several extracts of her appearances opposite Gaybo. He does not come across well at all, massively paternalistic and patronizing, I was a bit taken aback tbh. Almost felt like he was just a 'good cop' figure in the then still ongoing shit show that was the lack of civil rights, etc., in Ireland.
