"Google has recently begun plugging state-of-the-art language models into its robots, giving them the equivalent of artificial brains."
No. This should be a newspaper, not a sci-fi novel...

Aided by A.I. Language Models, Google’s Robots Are Getting Smart https://www.nytimes.com/2023/07/28/technology/google-robots-ai.html?smid=tw-share

@jeffjarvis at least they included a hint at the way LLMs actually work, by guesswork. "Eventually, just as ChatGPT or Bard learns to guess what words should come next in a poem or a history essay, RT-2 can learn to guess how a robot’s arm should move to pick up a ball or throw an empty soda can into the recycling bin." I wonder if that is how we all learn, guesswork, feedback and a lot of "Well, that didn't work." As long as we/they don't destroy the planet or humanity in the process.

Oops.

@jeffjarvis
All the AI hype has corrupted notions such as “smart” and “intelligent” to a point of complete obsolescence. We can't reclaim them (hype buzz is overpowering), so we'll need to come up with new terms.
