What do you do if in final copyedits of an article, you find a book chapter that explores a similar concept your article is exploring? Add a sentence? Add a footnote? Scream into the void and pull all of your hair out one-by-one? Contact the author directly? I've been working on this for 5 damn years ugh.
@ubiquity75@RobynCaplan add a footnote saying exactly what happened: “After this article was accepted for publication, I came across CITE which explores similar topics.” Maybe add one sentence about differences if relevant. “I emphasize XY while they emphasize YZ but the two are broadly compatible.” Or whatever.
@Chanders@patyrossini I said this on Twitter (yeah I'm still on there) but it's kind of weird seeing how early adopter homogeneity for all these new apps is experienced as 'utopia' by people on these apps. That's bluesky in a nutshell. But add in that it's mostly only former hipster millenials on it so far.

Also, academic Mastodon has died? Still seeing a significant conv here, and I've been connecting with a widening circle of scholars since joining. That experience may of course not be more general though.
On the other point, I was def being a bit melodramatic. But I do think it’s a relevant point (for the pol comm community at least) that if Patricia had asked her lit review questions 6 months ago she’d have been swamped w responses, and this time, crickets.
Also my instance is pretty much a ghost town these days, which wasn’t the case even 2-3 mos ago.
@Chanders@natematias@patyrossini Tbh I'm seeing less across all networks. Maybe it's just that now that our networks are diffused across 2-3 different platforms, it's just hard for anyone to keep up.
