I am not alone, as a (immigrant) Israeli, finding myself in extremely complicated positions nowadays. For example, I deplore the Israeli leadership, I deplore the destruction of Gaza, and when I read in the NYT that hospitals have a shortage of fuel, I shout at my computer that HAMAS HAS SHIT LOADS OF FUEL that it could give to the hospitals to keep the incubators running.

Ok, so here's what I guess people will think is a crazy thought, but one way for the violence in Gaza to end would be for Hamas to surrender and return the hostages. That won't happen, I know, but it's interesting to think about.

Considering if I should stay on this instance, or if it'd make more sense to head elsewhere given how bloated this instance has become.

While there's certainly nothing outright stopping you from moving in Mastodon, I find it's much the same problem as changing bank accounts. The pain of having to update details elsewhere, keeping everyone informed in case things don't transfer over, etc.

This screenshot of someone's Insta story says so much about yesterday in , but I need to unpack it a bit. An all-night rave was attacked by Hamas yesterday early morning. Dozens killed, who knows how many taken hostage into Gaza. Israeli FB and Insta were full of people posting that they hadn't heard from a loved one since 8am. This is a call for help from someone who managed to hide. 1/n

I am a leftwing Israeli (by migration) living in Tel Aviv. I went out now with my wife to donate blood - there has been an appeal.
I saw (1) pretty much empty streets; (2) lots of reserve soldiers; (3) so many people donating blood that we turned around and came back home. We'll try again tomorrow.
In the meantime, um, I don't know. It's bad.
