I dont expect to ever move again but if I did it’s be back to the island to be close to my sister and her family. And then I’d stay there till it slid into the ocean
I’ve moved… over a dozen times as an adult, I have entirely lost track. Recently diagnosed ADHD a few years ago, so I totally get what you mean. 100%.
Although I really love exploring new places and experiencing them beyond just visiting, so who knows if it’s ADHD or just my love of exploring. (Both?) lolol.
I wish I could help you. I haven’t hired someone to load a truck in about 10 years and it was about $200 for a couple of hours for a one bedroom.
Maybe it’s $800 for lots of stuff but definitely not $2700 wtf.
Have you tried maybe posting in private queer groups like this one? Not a guarantee it’ll be a good outcome but I think it increases the chances.
They include the island so maybe there’s someone local who would be willing to do it for $100-200/hour and some snacks/bevies.
I only thought about it because I was part of a similar group while I lived in Vancouver which I would’ve recommended but it’s only for the mainland. I found it super useful when I needed to sell my stuff. I felt good knowing my plants were going to a happy queer home 😌🪴
I noticed that many people would post about needing help with either car share or being a driver to carry heavy stuff or helping pack etc., so I figure maybe you’d get some joy with requesting muscles. Maybe even make a friend along the way.
@britt That sounds excessive, you could probably buy a truck for that money. Do you have any colleges/universities nearby? Here (in Germany) they often have websites where you can post jobs like this. Or any local listings with business listings (craigslist, gumtree, eBay - not sure whats most popular in your area). I paid about 500 EUR for 80qm2 office incl. loading, moving within the same city and unloading. But moving costs can vary widely. Hope you'll get a better offer!
@chris Hey thanks. It’s definitely a problem based on our location, for sure. Hopefully we find a good crew. Haven’t run into this issue before and we’ve moved like 7 times together lol
@joesabin yeah, we’ve done a ton of moves together all over North America… but for some reason, at this point in time, at our location… it’s a hot mess lol. Quotes are all over the place. I think I’ll put out a ‘help wanted’ ad and see who bites. I just don’t want people to flake on us… we have to reserve a ferry to even get off the island + hotels, it’s a lot of timing.

That seems really high. We paid 3 people with a truck $130 an hour plus a distance charge to move us. That was two apartments moving into a house and it still came to about $1300 which is pretty cheap imo for the work.
I wouldn't pay more than $500 for them to just load it...
