@chrismessina I remember Twitter before hashtags. I’m a little annoyed that when people read them out loud they say, for example hashtag cat, instead of just hash cat.

This is an example of how Mastodon (and other AP apps) can take hashtag functionality to a level never achieved on Twitter, or any other platform afaik.
Lists are where it’s at. Each list can be a uniquely-customised content discovery vehicle. Follow and (and/or) filter each list on people, tags and keywords.
Following other AP attributes could also be possible. Think of it!
