Each new day brings with it another reminder that everything I do is an ADHD trait.

..Called out!! :neurodiversity: I have a hard time not nesting parenthesis because the bonus content has bonus content (as does the side tangent)!

Oh my gawd. Parentheses (nested (of course [sometimes with brackets [as though that would help]])); semicolons -- and em dashes (with spacing because, you know, it's gonna get HTMLified -- and HTML linebreaks are unreliable) -- somehow don't make my writing clear to other people.

    sometimes do.

I don't think I have ADHD. But I recently learned "hyperfocus" happens with ADD/ADHD; so maybe I'm just undiagnosed.

stonebear,

@mmlvx @SocialGaff @ADHDefy My dude. Consider yourself clocked. You are SO one of us.

My wife says I'm autistic, and she has experience with ASD folks from her job. (I say she's just so much the opposite of autistic that it warps her perceptions. 🤪) A doctor friend I play Baduk with says I'm not autistic. (Not his specialty though.) Every time I take one of the online self-quizzes, I score slightly below the cut-off (like, 0-50, and ASD if you're 40+, then I'll always be about 38 -- "not (quite) on the spectrum").

My father's an engineer. Recently, visiting him, I asked if he'd ever been eval'd for ASD. He said No. (He had just talked about some common social thing that he's never understood. Which I get; there's lots of social conventions that just seem silly to me. But at the time, it sounded spectrum-adjacent to me.)

 Maybe I should get clocked. Or maybe I should just adapt? Is there value in a formal diagnosis?

    stonebear,

@mmlvx @avuko @SocialGaff @ADHDefy The only value in a formal diagnosis is if you NEED prescription head meds to settle your brain enough to work. I don't; I just stick music in my ears and I'm off to the races.

I thought I was neuroambiguous for years - just weird enough to not be completely neurotypical but not anything quantifiable.. then I took a course on dealing with ADHD to better understand my kids. tick, tick, tick, oh, shit, it me.

But hey, even if you're not formally ADwhatever, if the tips and tricks work? that makes the world better. No shame.

(I literally this morning just got through filling out my survey for The Snarky Company's new neurodivergent pin series... I got a dopamine molecule, and "We All Need Therapy"... the promo is called Own Your Stigma. The more of us who are Out... about anything, really... the safer and better the world is.)

    Good points, thank you.

I don't normally do decorations nowadays, but I looked at https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheSnarkyCompany?ref=seller-platform-mcnav and a lot of it is quite awesome. And reducing stigma is a good thing; so maybe.

Thanks for that perspective. Where I am (PNW USA), I doubt there's legal entanglements to worry about; but the probable expense is daunting.

And what if I get tested, and it turns out I'm not neurospicy? 🤔 Does that mean my various procrastinations and social awkwardnesses etc. are inexcusable character flaws or something? (Sorry, baggage from youth.)

Anyway, it helps hearing your experience -- thank you.

@ADHDefy Oh my god yes, my sentences become a nightmare if I don't think too much about it.

Worst thing is it would even be grammatically correct in german. You can even make words absurdly long to be more and more specific.

I mean, it's basically Lisp (by which I mean: each set of parantheses is its own, self-contained expression (potentially containing other expressions) and the deeper you go (because you can think of it as a tree structure (with each set of parenthesis opening a new tree node)), the more details you can add (so you could basically fold a sentence with parentheses like a tree-view (and extend sub-expressions if you want to know more details))).
