Rider has a 65% off discount at the moment and I highly recommend it. use the trial first and give it a test. It's been my main IDE for C++ and C# for the past 3-4 years, I rarely open Visual Studio these days. https://lp.jetbrains.com/rider-65-discount/

@djlink visual what?

AngryAnt,
@AngryAnt@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@djlink Absolutely. We've been in deep with the JetBrains tools for years - including their services (which we opt to self-host). No notes. Good stuff.

djlink,
@djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@AngryAnt which services if you can say? I'm not using any other than rider

AngryAnt,
@AngryAnt@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@djlink We're primarily using Space and TeamCity. Have been using YouTrack in the past as well.

We integrate with Gitea and MS AppCenter (for build distribution). AppCenter is a fully external service while all the others we opt to self-host (hosted solutions are available).

@djlink would you prefer it to CLion for C++? I never touch C#

djlink,
@djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@joel when I tried it I had some issues opening existing VS projects if I recall correctly, and with rider I can easily open and edit them even if other team members use VS. Maybe I did something wrong but Rider has worked better. The downside is that I'm not 100% sure it works outside Windows, and Clion yes? I'm yet to try

archehandoro,

@djlink 100% agree. JetBeains IDEs are great.

@djlink huh, it works for C++? I thought thats where you use CLion then? (i have the jetbrains bundle and have used clion ocadionally for c/c++ projects but never rider)

djlink,
@djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@Bubu it does, actually I started by using it when they did the c++ beta, "rider for Unreal", it opens any VSc++ project. I just happen to use it for c++ custom engine and C#/Unity.

@Bubu@chaos.social avatar

@djlink Interesting, good to know!

The projects that I work on are of different nature though. (autotools, makefiles, cmake, meson, ...)

kwramm,
@kwramm@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@djlink gotta mention that Jetbrain's subscriptions are a good deal, because if you subscribe for at least 12 months you'll keep access to the last version you were subscribed to

djlink,
@djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@kwramm and they reduce the fee each year until a certain min value
