Bewildered moment this week:

At the skin doctor, first an assistant asks some questions and fills them into the computer, then says "wait for the doctor" and leaves me alone with the unlocked system. 5min, would have been enough to lookup data of other people.

Awareness for these things is low in , I touch on this in https://blog.fluxcoil.net/posts/2020/10/japan_tech_interactions/

@globalc I don't really think this is any better in Germany unfortunately :/.

@drewdevault There's quite a bunch of client libraries used by weblate (hiredis-py, python-redis-lock, django-redis and redis-py through celery). I'm unsure if forking these makes sense and if yes, in which order of priority. ๐Ÿค”

Super excited that World of Goo is getting a sequel, this was one of the games (combined with XNA) that gave me courage to jump into indie dev. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCVZI8MZRP4

@djlink Exciting indeed... But I expected it to be a bit more... Different from the first?

@globalc interesting article, thanks. Small correction though: Mein Kampf is not forbidden (to own, read, sell or print) in Germany. Until 2015 it was forbidden to be re-printed due to the copyright holder (state of bavaria) not allowing it, but copyright ran out in 2015.

Oh shit. I found an old friend on LinkedIn yesterday and sent them a connection request.

Now LinkedIn knows Iโ€™m still alive, and has started sending me notifications multiple times a day to remind me that Iโ€™m supposed to have A Career.

Fuck LinkedIn and whoever rides with them.

    I made my mastodon posts searchable mostly because I want to be able to search them myself. Sometimes I post stuff that I need to get the info again or continue some discussion later on.

    Bubu, (edited )
    @Bubu@chaos.social avatar

    @djlink I actually thought your own posts were searchable before (if your instance has full text search enabled)? Not entirely sure though because my instance had this disabled for ressource reasons for the longest time.

    Tempted to write a Vim plugin that allows you, using version control, to copy (parts of) an old version of a file into Vim's "clipboard"

    just to be able to name it

    gityanki

    Bubu,
    @Bubu@chaos.social avatar

    @scy i suppose you can make that an alias for some fugitive (https://github.com/tpope/vim-fugitive) functionality ๐Ÿ™‚.

    And yes, fugitive is actually the greatest git frontend ever.

    can we just make

    Rider has a 65% off discount at the moment and I highly recommend it. use the trial first and give it a test. It's been my main IDE for C++ and C# for the past 3-4 years, I rarely open Visual Studio these days. https://lp.jetbrains.com/rider-65-discount/

    Bought an internet radio for the kitchen so I can play my snapcast streams to it.

    Obviously:

    • I had to enter the WiFi password with a dial.
    • It doesn't allow you to load your own streams, but
    • it loads the streams through a dodgy unencrypted http connection.

    Time to hack in my own functionality?

    Bubu,
    @Bubu@chaos.social avatar

    @philpem @halfy mitmproxy/ssl strip would only work if the device actually tries to establish a http connection to begin with, right? Cert pinning would only be relevant if you could install your own root CA's onto the device iiuc?
