At this point I am 98% positive I am one of the last people on the planet using the "iTunes Store" section of Apple Music, and that includes Apple employees. Times New Roman, baby!!

@cabel I’m holding it down with you!

🙋🏻‍♀️ I’m another one. But not often.

@cabel You noticed that too? I thought I was missing a font or something.

jonc,
@jonc@mastodon.nu avatar

@cabel I use it quite a lot actually, to buy music to use with my DJ software. Apple doesn’t allow those kind of apps to access Apple Music.

martinfeld,
@martinfeld@social.lol avatar

@cabel I still use it, but wow, I'd never seen that Times New Roman menu!

achailleux,
@achailleux@mastodon.social avatar

@cabel That's a bug in WebKit. You can reproduce that in CSS with the latest version of Safari: add some font-size to a <select> and boom, TNR.

@cabel
I just now (a few months ago) upgraded to a system with the Music app. It took me literally half an hour to find the store.

allenbrunson,
@allenbrunson@mastodon.world avatar

@cabel i still buy a lot of music from the itunes store. i like the fact that i end up with plain old non-drm’ed music files. i would not be too surprised if apple abandoned the mac music app, given the sad state of disrepair it is in, but if they do, i can take all my purchases with me to some other app.

honghao,

@cabel I’m still buying on iTunes Store. Just can’t abandon my 10+ years well managed library, and renting music is not for me, given they can take music off anytime they want.
But the current Apple Music app is like insulting you if you don’t subscribe, the experience for local music is just too bad

letra,

@cabel oh! I know this bug! it’s a Mac-only Webkit issue with setting the font-family to system-ui (San Francisco) on <select> elements. if you set an intermediate weight (e.g. in between Regular and Bold) this happens. actually I should check if I actually submitted a bug report for this :thaenkin:

jkohlmann,
@jkohlmann@mastodon.social avatar

@cabel It’s a bummer. I am actively moving away from Apple Music for local music library management at this point, which is saying something, given that I had already abandoned the iTunes Store 😩

gu3st,

@cabel how do I get the rest of the OS like this.

graemek,
@graemek@mastodon.social avatar

@cabel I may be the only user of iTunes left on Windows, but not everyone is on Bandcamp, or releases CDs, sooo

(No streaming services here!)

@cabel there-are-dozens-of-us.gif

I am sure the number of people who actually buy music has fallen off a cliff in the era of Apple Music and Spotify, but we do still exist! I buy all my favorite albums!

noah,
@noah@finkasaur.us avatar

@cabel I will never stop advocating for a "Buy this album"/upgrade-in-place user story for Apple Music

Luke,
@Luke@typo.social avatar

@noah @cabel that is a really smart strategy.

@noah Yes yes yes one-click “keep it forever”!!!

Wait a minute, this actually works? 😮
https://www.reddit.com/r/AppleMusic/comments/pejwcs/comment/haykmx8/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

"It automatically replaces the Apple Music streaming version with the DRM-free iTunes Store version. No duplicates or anything. You don't have to remove the Apple Music version before buying. You can verify this with the "Cloud Status" column on the Music/iTunes app on macOS/Windows. It even keeps your play count, but I'm not sure about edited fields like comment, composer, grouping, etc."

cabel,
@cabel@panic.com avatar

@noah I have had wildly mixed results. Sometimes it results your album having two of every track in a really annoying hard to fix way!

tylerstone,
@tylerstone@sfba.social avatar

@cabel I buy music often, but usually on my iPhone as that’s what’s handy when I’m out-and-about and hear something I’d like to own.

jedmund,
@jedmund@fireplace.cafe avatar

@cabel I used to actually buy a lot of music from iTunes. I don't remember when, but they started locking a device out from buying on multiple regions within 6 months, or something, and I think thats around when I stopped since I mostly buy from the Japanese store but also want to buy from the US Store.

Anyway, I had very low faith that my purchases will be easily accessible outside of Apple Music in the future so I just stopped. Too much nagging, too much burying.

glacials,

@cabel I’ve recently returned to the Apple ecosystem after 15 years. What’s the difference between iTunes and Apple Music?

sam,
@sam@xoxo.zone avatar

@cabel Oh wow. That's nearing iTunes movie trailers website level.

On a positive related note, I ripped a couple of CDs recently and they synced everywhere with iTunes match!

stilescrisis,
@stilescrisis@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@cabel I tried using it the other day and was surprised at how aggressively it tries to reroute you to Apple Music. I just wanted to hear a 30 second preview! I guess YouTube wins this round.

@cabel If iTunes Store had lossless downloads, I’d use it for things that aren’t on Bandcamp. As it doesn’t, I get those from Qobuz (whom the majors are apparently happy to license lossless downloads to).
