Looking for opinions on the MX Keys Mechanical Mini for Mac from people whose opinion I trust on this matter but maybe the MX Keys is too boring for @imyke 😄
@simonbs I got that one and love it! Its quite quiet, buttons are soft to press. Love the backlit and its modes.
One thing I’ve noticed however is that when using combos (like Cmd Page Down) I couldn’t just press and hold Cmd and then tap PgDn if I want to jump few pages (in InDesign) but had to release both keys and press again each time.
@simonbs@imyke I did have to put the Unifying Receiver on a USB extension cable before it was reliably lag-free. Plugged directly into my Caldigit TS4 it suffered from interference.
@simonbs@imyke I have it. Love it. Came from a Das Keyboard and it feels like the perfect compromise between small/thin and clicky. I went for the Brown switches version, and it’s klicky enough to be satisfying while not clicky enough to ruin Zoom calls.
@nileane@matt That's a great overview and sounds like some valid complaints. However, I'm unsure if they matter to me. I'm dead set on a keyboard from the MX Keys family because they can be connected to multiple machines at once and I find the wireless connection is very reliable.
This would be my first mechanical keyboard so for me the question is really whether I like mechanical keyboards or not which I guess no review can answer 😄
I think it’s solid if you want those Logitech conveniences over everything else and like using the Logi Options app for configuring it, then you’ll feel right at home with it. I just wish it felt better to type on and had a wired mode ✌️
@simonbs@nileane@matt I find the MX Mechanical to be a good starter option. I have the tactile quiet (brown) switches with custom keycaps, and it does what I need for my keyboard. Though I’d recommend trying out some switches to see what kind of feel you’re going for.
@simonbs I have the mini, with clicky keys, and I love it. My main reason to buy it was the quick switching between devices and that really works well.
When it comes to mechanical keyboards, the rabbit hole goes deep! I have fancier keyboards, but I still think this one is nice.
@simonbs I’ve had the regular MX Keys mini, the only issue is my Bluetooth headphones lag when I use them connected to the MacBook. I wonder if the Mac version solves this or not.
(My thinking being that the connectivity on the Mac version might be slightly different since it doesn’t come with the wireless dongle, but I just have no idea)
