When I finally realized that feedback from my boss at a “check in” was just them reverse engineering the right compliments or criticisms of me to justify giving me the same raise (or, more likely, lack thereof) they would have anyway, it was then that I should’ve known I was having some issues with indirect communication. Alas, it took another year for me to finally realize I was autistic. Far too austistic to be middle managed.

@ryanhoulihan I am often asked if I'm "on the spectrum" and I usually answer "I have never been diagnosed. Never been to a shrink either."
What you've said about bosses makes so much sense, it seems like I should have already known... but I'm left thinking "Wait... if I'd known, that process would have been a lot less frustrating."
