Sure, ghosts and witches are spooky, but the real horror of Halloween is staring down the barrel of several months of darkness and cold knowing your already severe depression is about to level up 🎃
@AbandonedAmerica There's something about the Halloween time of year — somehow the membrane between aspects of our mind gets thinner and more permeable. The darker creepy crawlies can sneak through into our normal mind. It's no accident they made this holiday at this time of year. One source of solace: at least they got that right, making Halloween at the end of October.
@AbandonedAmerica I hear you. In a couple of months it will be dark here at 4:30. I’m going to invest in more Hue bulbs and tune them to daylight frequency.
@AbandonedAmerica that’s why we have all these winter festivals. Halloween, whatever you want to call the one in late December, the stuff that goes on in January and February..
Winter is dark and cold. Humans need these events as points of emotional, and literal, light to get them through to spring 😊
@AbandonedAmerica in the UK that’s what we have Pantomime season for. Adds something absurdist, bright, and fun to take part in to catch the post-winter-festivals lul.
Then the gamers among us may chose to observe Winter-een-mas 😁
@Hey_Beth@AbandonedAmerica Same here. Finally realized it is Seasonal Affective Disorder so I try to get as much sun on my face as possible and that seems to help.
@Mamalafafala@Hey_Beth I hated fall most of my life, it's the Sunday night of months. Warming up to it a bit in recent years but still dread the winter
@Hey_Beth@Mamalafafala I'm sorry, friend. We had an exhausting year too. Finally seems like we're getting stabilized but I do dread the cold and dark. Or, rather, my ability to deal with it.
