thought: if you have to ditch your process as a tactic to deliver quickly or to meet a deadline, there's probably something wrong with your process

@kellogh ...or with the deadline...

@gvwilson or the process for setting deadlines?

narthur,

@kellogh @schmonz I think this idea is too narrow. Some parts of the process are more future-looking and we do them now to make things better later. Sometimes a short term goal takes priority. Same as changing your eating and sleeping habits (and maybe sacrificing other things) before a race, to optimize conditions for the race.

@narthur changing your eating and sleeping habits before a race is a process. for an experienced runner, they’ll talk a lot it as being their process. most orgs have processes for dealing with short, medium and long term goals. having a process doesn’t mean you do the same thing every day, or even on a schedule. it’s just a principled approach that everyone understands @schmonz

narthur,

@kellogh @schmonz that’s fair. I certainly know the context you’re coming from. I just think it’s a balance - adhering rigorously to the process in all circumstances isn’t good either. There’s value in live-tuning behavior to respond to conditions.

@kellogh The way that I like to say it: "What we do under the most stress IS our process, the rest is window dressing." 😃 /cc @schmonz
