@ryanrandall@PaulGrahamRaven yeah when a tool's community starts venturing into boundless mysticism and metaphysics, it can become more of a distraction or worse a liability. That's why I still stick with @TiddlyWiki because I feel we're more grounded 😁 plus it's exactly what I need and it's uncomplicated (a single html document. No fuss)
@PaulGrahamRaven I think it’s interesting that the Obsidian world, moreso than any other tool, seems to have embraced productivity-about-productivity. Something about the Lego block nature of it seems to feed this. I’m developing a hypothesis about why this is… but working on that is dangerously close to the recursive engine and it threatens to suck me in.

That about nails it. I take notes, for some things, and Obsidian is fun. I'm using it to keep source material for a website redesign. But all that organization is just... I mean I just wrote an entire novel with zero outline, notes or anything. There's no note-taking substitute for actually knowing your material.
@PaulGrahamRaven I started getting interested in note-taking apps, and then started to find that whole scene disturbing. Like, what do I make of someone who goes on and on about how much more productive he is since he started using zettelkasten, but all he does is produce videos about how to use zettelkasten?
