@daringfireball Admittedly, I'm not an expert on ActivityPub, but what I would expect Meta do do in this place is, be compatible with the 'consume' part. Follow Mastodon accounts, but silo off their own accounts, so Mastodon users can't follow them. And there won't be RSS feeds, for good measure. I don't know this is possible, but 'compatible' really can mean anything.
@oelna You’re not thinking this through. Read-only doesn’t work for social. How would Barcelona users reply to tweets? You’re either in or you’re out. Instagram = complete silo. Barcelona = part of the ActivityPub world.
