I think the topic is usually dealt with far too superficially by generally recommending the use of a VPN without asking which VPN actually delivers what it promises. And without thinking about the cases in which you might not want to use a VPN. In the end, you have to be aware that when you use a VPN, the VPN provider sees what you do, without a VPN, the provider sees it. Someone just sees it. So it is a question of trust who you choose.
