Another episode of the late-stage capitalism's "world wide web"... So I wanted to find out whether other people find the strings of hoodies problematic, and all I found was:

  • On Reddit, someone says they stim with the string all the time, and they often even put it into their mouth. Someone wrote they hate hoodies, and a trans-masc person said they love them. So far so good, but still no deep insights★.
  • Most "search results" are ads to Etsy for "autism awareness" "hoodies" (some of them are actually pullovers or T-shirts), sported with puzzle symbols and ableistic terms like "antisocial"
  • "help autism parents with this hoodie" 🤬

Thanks internet (/s), I'm going to buy a sweatshirt instead... I cannot even imagine that I would like this string (knotted or not), and I don't need a hood attached to something that's essentially a pullover. I already have a jacket with a hood and without that annoying string...

★ If you have any insights, feel free to share them 😊

pinkpenguin,

@maxi wouldn't it be possible to cut the string and pull it out? are we talking about the same thing?

my hoodie strings constantly get pulled out by accident so i'm a bit confused... 😅

(although your description could be swapped for literally any research into anything to do with autism, so i relate)
