The tracks and platforms are unusually high here, needing to clear existing elevated train tracks (you can see them in the distance of the first photo). This, combined with sparse, old structure makes for a pretty scary experience.
@mwichary It’s interesting that they still decided to create an elevated train, even though they already had one to clear. The street is wide enough to accommodate the train on ground level. In my city, Stuttgart, they would have done just that.
@mwichary PS: The new Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof (central station for high speed rail) has a similar problem, just underground. It needs to go over and under two U-Bahn (light rail) and S-Bahn (heavy rail) tunnels. It’s, therefore, built at a relatively high angle. However, if you’re actually standing there, it’s not really noticeable.
