@LALegault What people don't get is that this isn't about voting for someone else. This issue has affected people so viscerally that they don't care about Trump. They care about the person that is enabling this, which is Joe Biden. And while his handling of the the war is helping him with Jewish voters, it is sinking his standing with Arab-Americans in places where it counts, like Dearborn, MI. Not to mention how it is going to depress the youth vote. Vote shaming will have no effect on this!
Every time people say a third party candidate has no chance, they are helping make it come true.
What people need to understand is that the Democrats don't mind losing. They'll throw the match like a paid-off boxer, because they're helping the establishment use Republicans as a weapon to terrorize us and keep us in line. We are being punished for wanting Bernie and speaking out against DNC corruption.
@violetmadder@LALegault@Mary625 if you have a multi-party system, you need to get rid of FPTP voting. In Canada, Conservatives have succeeded in winning elections by creating a vote split on the left. They will even pay media to pump up the smaller left parties (i.e. NDP or Green) so long as they attack the larger left party (i.e. the Liberals). This is why in Ontario, we got Doug Ford. That and a media that told us "nothing to see here, ignore this election"
When I saw the DNC putting more effort into getting 3rd parties OFF the ballot than they would to get any kind of ranked choice voting ON the ballot, that's when I knew they weren't making any kind of effort in good faith to defend democracy. The left values diversity of thought, and requires a system that can welcome different groups together-- the spoiler effect is a weapon of conservatism, silencing dissent instead of cultivating progress. FPTP voting will always devolve into Evil vs Diet Evil.
It takes somewhat different tactics to control a parliamentary system or systems with different voting methods, but across the board all democracies everywhere are under attack, undermined by the money and power wielded by corporate feudalism. The crises of climate change and worsening inequality are being exploited by fascists who use fear to push authoritarian policies. I see the same patterns unfolding in many different nations.
@violetmadder@hfinyow@LALegault@Mary625 A vote for the lesser evil is still a vote for evil. As long as parties can keep you "strategically" — which is to say, blinkeredly — voting for "the lesser evil", all they have to do is be the SECOND WORST choice on the ballot.
We need to spend a lot more time and energy blaming the people who SET UP this trap and forced us into this unbearable position in the first place, and less helping the establishment suppress the people who dare point out how fucked up it all is.
@violetmadder The only problem with third parties in this election is that they will most likely tilt the election to Trump. How about trying them when they stakes aren’t so high? The only thing Ralph Nader accomplished in that other election was giving George W. Bush a second term. What good was that?
