@elilla The thing that's so weird to me about American Catholics Being Like That is... Why aren't they just Anglican? There's certainly enough churches around here
@elilla People genuinely complaining about the Pope not being held accountable by checks and balances is possibly the most American thing that has ever happened
@sidereal my favourite part is tradcaths earnestly arguing against how "the Pope just unilaterally and without recourse fired his excellency, like a Soviet authocrat".
when, you know, this is how USian capitalists, like, fire people. this is what being fired is. every single company in the US (& other countries) is a mini dictatorship, with the exception of worker-owned cooperatives, the least capitalist of them.
@elilla I say this to people in this country all the time. You can't have freedom of speech, and at-will employment, because then I can be fired at any time if my boss doesn't like something I say. I truly don't understand how anyone could feel any degree of freedom living in this cursed country.
