Other people's low standards and personal comfort with the status quo are unfortunately my problem. But I don't have to like it. Or them.

gwynnion,
@gwynnion@mastodon.social avatar

Seriously, I'm just going to block you for saying the same tired shit.

hannu_ikonen,

@gwynnion Some cant hold two thoughts at once, or two apparently conflicting ideas. I wish ppl would use their Anterior Cingulate and reconcile issues rather than shutting down marginalized voices expressing their misgivings.

At the end of the day I could torch Biden for Gaza and still do whats necessary to prevent "Worse."

Should we adopt KOSA love as well cuz Tammy Baldwin supports/supported it? Or is life more complicated than black and white?

ArtBear,

@hannu_ikonen @gwynnion

People who let the Tories win, because Corbyn wasn't progressive enough on Europe to vote labour.

Have same effect as people who would let the Tories win again, because Starmer is not progressive enough to vote labour.

Most of these people don't even live in either Corbyn or Starmer constituency anyway & attribute mystical knowledge transfer magic to sabotaging their local progressive hundreds of miles away.

Labour mostly learns, go less progressive, regressives won.

hannu_ikonen,

@ArtBear @gwynnion Starmer is trash yet I can vote for him and call him out on his trash if the alternative is Rishi fucking Sunak who is much trashier.

That people cant hold Starmer to account with random musings online is censorious and invalidating for no apparent reason other than they dont want to admit Starmer is a moderate Tory.

Admitting it holds feet to the fire. Admit, build a left coalition, and hold "less worse" accountable.

hannu_ikonen,

@ArtBear @gwynnion And yeah the Corbyn deplatforming and charges of antisemitism from his party's right flank played a massive role even i know that as a Yank.

ArtBear,

@hannu_ikonen @gwynnion
yes starmer, terribad, but that huge lurch to right is a product of anonymous "I'll show them" anti-tactical votes that let the Tories in yet again.

Starmer is nowhere near my consituency, my local labour candidates have been decent

I voted labour quite inspite of Blair & Brown & Corbyn & would do despite Starmer.

As a green for decades our system is annoying as hell.

I used vote green in every EU election though & get green representative usually. Actual democracy.

hannu_ikonen,

@ArtBear @gwynnion Yeah imo id want a green alternative. I HOPED the nexus of crises 2020-2023 would move more people in the West toward the Greens, but FPTP inertia is a pain

hannu_ikonen,

@ArtBear @gwynnion Nexus, not jexus, fat thumbs here

ArtBear,

@hannu_ikonen @gwynnion
Hey it could be a thing:

Jesus Christ on a pogo-stick what a Nexus!
Jexus

hannu_ikonen,

@ArtBear @gwynnion As Im in the US, I'd vote against Trump aka Hitler anyway as I live in a swing state that had a corporate coup in 2010 from Georgia-Pacific aka Koch Industries.

Knife Edge shit since Citizens United.

Nobody on the left needs to worry about people like me.

In the US its the casuals Biden needs to reach and not alienate, and that takes a motivated base& boots on the ground, not someone having to rebut every criticism of neoliberalism cuz their brain cant handle it.

hannu_ikonen,

@gwynnion Like yeah, BC NDP may be preferred to any (more) conservative alternative & yet Bomnie Henry and Adrian Dix still be Tuskegee loving social Darwinists

gwynnion,
@gwynnion@mastodon.social avatar

@hannu_ikonen Conservatives have been allowed to call themselves "liberal" just because they'd rather somebody else do the dirty work and they pretend their hands are clean.

And these people get treated like heroes for being "not as bad."

CosmicTrigger,
Lazarou,
@Lazarou@mastodon.social avatar

@CosmicTrigger @gwynnion @hannu_ikonen lol, same works for Labour in the UK now.
They had aspirations once, but now it's "hey, at least we're not the Tories"
I gather other nations are in the same funk

CosmicTrigger,

@Lazarou @gwynnion @hannu_ikonen I was reading a history of the IRA and in the book I was reading the IRA had hopes that the Labour Party might actually work with them at some point. But of course . . .

gwynnion,
@gwynnion@mastodon.social avatar

@CosmicTrigger @Lazarou @hannu_ikonen That reminds me of someone trying to defend Keir Starmer when he's as viciously anti-trans as the Tories are. With friends like these...

CosmicTrigger,

@gwynnion @Lazarou @hannu_ikonen

It's so fucked up that a terrible UK writer of terrible books for kids actually has influence over UK policies and I keep wondering when someone will just use the Aveda Kedavra spell on her and shut her horrible TERF mouth permanently

gwynnion,
@gwynnion@mastodon.social avatar

If you don't have an analysis of power and power relations beyond "vote blue no matter what" then you're not worth talking to.

CosmicTrigger,
Laukidh,

@CosmicTrigger @gwynnion I got into a rare argument on here recently, over my promise to the DNC that I will not vote for Biden again, because he ended the covid emergency too soon, caving to the threats from the right and big business.

I was told that I can’t just use “or Trump gets elected” as my leverage. I laughed and told them yeah, exactly.
